Psilocybe semilanceata - Northern UK ID
#7511976 - 10/13/07 01:06 PM (16 years, 4 months ago) |

Been out and about today and think I've found my first Liberty Caps. Some I am 100% certain to be Psilocybe semilanceata, but others are less obvious.
* Habitat: Found in Northumberland(North UK) in a meadow being grazed by sheep. * Characteristics of the gills: Brown * Characteristics of the stem: Stems yellow/brown, usually more yellow closer to the cap. 0.5mm-1mm thick. * Characteristics of the cap: Mainly yellow caps, some seeming more brown. Usually have a nipple on the top. * Spore print color: No spore print taken yet (Will be taking some for the undecided mushrooms)
Of the pictures i am about to post 1-74 are almost deffinitely Psilocybe semilanceata. Whatever they are, these numbers all appear to be the same species. If anybody can ID those (and point out any that should deffinitely be avoided) I'll be happy.
The bigger ones are generally the ones I was uncertain about, usually due to darker colouring or amiguous nipples. I'm going to spore print all of these, if anybody can try and point out any unlikely to be Psilocybe semilanceata. Side note: I've just went through all these again and I am certain that all are Psilocybe semilanceata with exceptions of 75,79,83,84,86,87,90,93,98 and 107.
If anybody can check these ones in particular and scan over the rest just to confirm the joy.
Thanks

without pics or a sporeprint its almost impossible to decide a liberty cap. there are so many LBM(little brown mushrooms) that it is almost impossible.

^ Correct (just sorting them out from my camera)

On location:

Sombrero mushroom! This just a mutated Psilocybe semilanceata? Didn't keep it unforunately (my wrong).
(oops, imageshack appears to be fucked - will upload later - and it's not the one above by the way)

You think it's Semilanceata though?
Here are a few pictures of the spores (if that's worthwhile posting?).

The last one I was unsure about. It looked like a flattened Liberty Cap but it's hard to tell for sure (especially now they're pretty dry).

lovely finds trancedd.
Its nice to know somebody from my area is having abit of luck!
Non luck as of yet here, the odd mushrooms are just starting to sprout up now, we need more rain!
Been out on an amanita hunt today and found the forest to be lacking fungi! Only a few species have managed to pop out.
May I ask where roughly in northumberland these were found?
Please check your PM's matey!

There is an official 2010 UK lib season thread, you know, and it's almost impossible to miss, because it is on page one and has over 1500 replies. If you miss it and dig up and resurrect a two year old thread instead you really need some very strong glasses.

LOL i think people just scroll all the way to the bottom of a thread and see related ones without realising the dates
