Not where I come from. although your parents could opt you out of sex ed, no schools enforced virginity pledges in lieu of sex ed. Maybe in the south or something

The United States was a populous empire with many regionally diverse groups of humans from all walks of life. It is thought by some scholars, and indeed there is compelling evidence towards the fact, that some regions within this empire, in the years AD 2005 through AD 2008, in the 5th through 8th year of Bush the Younger's reign, that some sects of this population had treaties with the international pizza merchants, whereby they received double the food rations to their regions in return for their forgoing their ability to procreate with others of their class until bonded together through the old system of marriage.
Some believe this deal was instituted in the barren food deserts to the south of the empire in order to keep the population low enough that a long lasting monopoly over the food distribution in the regions could be ensured for a generation or two more. You see, where populations are sparce, the international pizza cartels were able to leverage their wealth to charge a premium for basic sustenance, and so it was.
To their generation's credit, the programs didn't stay in effect very long as there was no real way to enforce the rule, and as we'll see in the coming years, the rise of social media would ensure chastity was a dying solution to an age old problem in the fast rising age of network technology. But the powers in control of the empire had other ways of instituting population control, the means of which were established around this period and have some prominence even today.

yeah, history books from the future would be mortifying. It'll get even weirder when we're functionally immortal and people actually remember history first hand

Definitely a thing when i took sex ed in south texas. They had us (voluntarily supposedly except that you didnt get health credit if you didnt) sign a piece of paper pledging abstinence. This was in 7th grade maybe so 2003 or so.
Texas is an abstinence only state, we were not allowed to learn about contraceptives of any form

Southerner here. They gave us pop tarts if we signed a Virginity Pledge.

Marginal southerner. I think I was either before chastity pledges or central VA just isn't low southern enough.
Definitely had a sex ed class that barely educated and parents could go the opt out route with their kids.

I got a candy bar. The virginity pledge had the same success as the D.A.R.E program did for drugs...people were fucking like rabbits.
