My father always tells me when I go out with American friends -"don't talk politics or criticise America, they don't like that"

In the US theres an unspoken rule to never talk politics or religion, two topics people love to pretend to be experts on, but will become enraged if you expose their surface level understanding of either.
You have to maintain this balance between absolute adoration for your country, and not knowing very much about it.

Seriously though. Move to Canada. You seem like a decent person. You will more than likely pass the immigration qualification to move up here.
Don't you dare do it illegally though. You'll figure out real quick that we don't fuck around with our border.

I've always wanted to get a spot in Vancouver, I've always heard really good things about BC. But I like my friends and family here too much to ever leave. Never met a Canadian who was unpleasant though.

Yeah, we have large groups of immigrants from everywhere in the major cities. Friendliness is the way to go. Unnecessary butthurts are avoided 99% of the time. On paper, Canada is a bomb waiting to explode. We have so many people from so many different regions of the earth. Natural enemies somehow find a way to live together up here and that includes extremists from every standpoint out there. Canada should be a war torn battlefield over cultural and religious and race and moral ideology. Yet somehow, we find a way to weed out the morons.

Toronto is the most diverse city in the world iirc. Canada has its problems, but its nothing like the States.

what did we talk about at least half of the time we spent together (in a round about way)? haha. but i told you it was cool with H and me so maybe that doesn't count.
i totally understand his warning, though, and generally it's a good rule to observe. he's a smart man wrt typical americans.

Both sides are hella guilty of doing the exact same type of hypocritical shit. Both sides are being very stupid right now. Enough insulting each other and work together. Both sides are playing for team America and yet they argue like brutal dictators.
The illegals issue arising right now is what happens when a country enforces the laws it bothered to create. Borders are checkpoints. They are crucial if you don't want people coming in with shit that is illegal in your country such as drugs or a known murderer. A country like the US is too indebted to afford to save everyone.
People flee Ecuador and Venezuela to go to the US illegally... Why do they get to have free US citizenship? Because they were bold enough to break the law?
So... They are feeling terrible conditions right?
Well, The US has roughly the same murder rate as Ecuador, Mongolia, Zambia, Lithuana and Sudan. 5.50/100000-ish
There are pretty much exactly the same amount of murder in the US per year than there are in Nigeria and Venezuela. 17500-ish murders per year
The cost of living is higher though. Much, much higher.
These people need to get in line a go through the system like every other civil people out there.

Anyone who wants to justify ethnic cleansing can eat a bullet.
"How bout we just ethnically cleanse a little bit?" Bipartisanship wins again!

Hmm, the demographics don't seem that diverse. The US is a completely different story.
