Over the years, I've left various books, zines, and posters at friends homes as they've exceeded the space in my backpack - but I built a bookcase for my van recently and I've finally consolidated my collection! I've been going through some old insurrectionary shit I gathered in my Occupy days.

iEarlGrey has a little fun with the current situation, showing just how bad the West's policies are failing:

Edit:  Richard Medhurst also picked up on the same theme.  I didn't watch the video, but take a look at the headline:

That's a tactic of the mainstream news; they expect most of their audience to only read the title and maybe the first paragraph or so.

Exactly, and I only read the title.

Did you listed to the full video, and if so, did the story change towards the end?

I've found Richard Medhurst to be far more reliable than the mainstream news.

Don't really feel like doing your homework for you - just find it odd that you recognize a manipulative tactic of dishonest media that is 100% reliant on the individual taking a lazy and uncritical approach to their information consumption, and your response is to be more selective about which media you uncritically believe instead of adopting a critical approach to your information consumption.

Do you just think you're special to the point of being above such rhetorical manipulation?

I said the mainstream media uses this deceptive tactic.  Richard Medhurst is not the mainstream media.

Dishonesty and propaganda isn't limited to your nebulous category of "mainstream media" - that's a flawed premise.

Quote:

"Naturally, the educated man does not believe in propaganda; he shrugs and is convinced that propaganda has no effect on him. This is, in fact, one of his great weaknesses, and propagandists are well aware that in order to reach someone, one must first convince him that propaganda is ineffectual and not very clever. Because he is convinced of his own superiority, the intellectual is much more vulnerable than anybody else to this maneuver, even though basically a high intelligence, and full and objective information are still the best weapons against propaganda."

- Jacques Ellul, 'Propaganda: The Formation Of Men's Attitudes'

I didn't say it was limited to the mainstream media, I said that it is a common tactic of theirs.

You then implied that Richard Medhurst may have been using this tactic too, hiding the real story deeper in the video.

Now you just admitted you don't know that, you just wanted to take a cheap shot.

There is no “real story,” it’s all subjective.

I could go on the news every night and talk about how much black people commit crimes relative to their population size, it would be factually correct, but still incredibly biased.

So what did you mean by "I said the mainstream media uses this deceptive tactic.  Richard Medhurst is not the mainstream media." Does that not imply that he doesn't use this deceptive tactic by virtue of not being msm?

No, I was explicit in my accusations: "It's odd that you recognize a manipulative tactic of dishonest media that is 100% reliant on the individual taking a lazy and uncritical approach to their information consumption, and your response is to be more selective about which media you uncritically believe instead of adopting a critical approach to your information consumption."

Restated: The proper response to this deceptive tactic is to read past the headline everytime - not to make a prejudiced distinction between trustworthy vs deceptive headlines.

Photo of dead Ukrainian soldier's phone shows google searches for “Why isn’t javelin working” “javelin won’t shoot” “javelin making noises” “Javelin, why does it get hot?”

In Dnepropetrovsk, the relatives of the deceased Ukrainian soldier, following the funeral, were sent a summons to the front.  They weren't too happy about that.

Why do you think that's more relevant here, rather than "The Official Ukraine War Thread"? Keep your propaganda contained to the one thread please.
