Chopping Straw??

Hi there! Is there any easy way to chop the straw? When I did it(long time ago) I did it with some scisors! It took me a long time to do it! Imagine cutting all those pieces.. Any better tek?

Electric hedge trimmers work okay. If you have a bagger/mulcher lawn mover? Mow lawn low cut. Then spead out a strip of staraw on top the clean cut lawn & mow/mulch/bag it. For doing several bales, rent a small chipper/shredder a half day.

Yeah lawn mower or shredder for large amounts,scissors or blender for smaller i suppose.I used scissors as well and it takes bloody ages lol.Next im just gona chuck it in the garden shredder.

one problem with people these days is that they need to learn how to learn, or they need to learn how to think, if this was life or death youd have that damn straw chopped to a fine dust in 3 seconds, you could put it in a food processor, a chiper shredder, like stated before run it over with the lawn mower, you could simply cut it with some scissors, you could put it into a big metal garbage can and take a weed wacker to it, you could take it to your power company, they got shreders, if you really cant figure i out, give a 10 year old a pair of scissors, a dollar, and a bale of hey and yur set

haha.. funny you ask..

Last night, my friends uncle needed help. so i came up with my weed wacker, as stated above..

what you do is:

1- fill 5 gal bucket 1/2 way up with straw
2- make a skirt out of a black garbage bag around the handle, drape it over the bucket to keep dust down!
3- weed wack away!!!
4- the fine stuff will end up on the bottom , so scoop out the bigger pieces from the top, use the bottom stuff,, return the top and add more. and go again!

BINGO!!

That works it's kinda redneck but it works.
Just make sure u get all the dry grass turds out from under it b4 u do it.

I had a whole bale to cut once and I just cut the binding twine off and set the bushhog on my tractor down on the bale. (my bushhog has no exit on it so it didn't blow it all over the place

If u use ur lawnmower u might want to make it work as a mulcher mower.
Try duct taping a pice of cardboard over the exit on it. U also might want to set it higher than the grass or do it on a hard surface
(without it running of course)

The blender will work 4 smaller batches

U should look into buying one of those PTO driven chippers for the tractor on ur site.

I had never thought of using a chipper.
I have one that mounts to a Ford 4910 it will cut 4 inch locust posts (left over fence post sections)
with no problem.

Anyway the chipper is a gr8t idea

sit the bail of straw on the tail gate of a truck.
put some plastic down on the ground.
snip snip...move bail...snip snip...move bail.
works great.

Unfortunately, I am talking about small amounts of straw.. For few casings. :smile: Can I use a vegetable chopper? Or a blender? Is it safe? Won't it cut it in too small pieces? Thanks.

We use a 3 phase 220/440 stationary chipper/shredder, that will eat tree's,  :smile:
