s.n. goenka has one of the largest buddhist temples in india. I wonder if a year of meditation would wipe away so much of your previous thoughts, what would be left?

Just being around an awakened being can help your own mind awaken to its true nature, the space, the energy coming off an awakened being can inspire that same recognition to take place in you.
Look at how many different environments you enter each day, could be wake up at home environment, then go to a work/school environment, then to a shopping environment for some food, then to an environment where your with friends to hang out, then back to home environment again with family, it could be any number of them, but how many of these environments are focused discussing/discovering the ultimate truth of existence?
Going to satsang is like a statement your making to the universe, saying you are really ready Could you picture someone with a hardened ego going to satsang? I couldn't see it... They would say things like 'who needs to go to satsang?' 'i dont need outside help, the only help is from within' Just going to satsang is already showing some kind of humility I couldn't recommend it enough
"where two or more are gathered in my name, there i am, right in the midst of them"
It wouldn't do anything for 'you' at all, but who knows you may be one of the fortunate ones & 'you' might die The fact you've even picked up a book about Ramana Maharshi & read it, shows there is some readyness in you
