There is a side view, a handful view, a closeup view, and a single large shroom view. However my upload allowance has been reached. I will try to post more pics as soon as my allowance refreshes.

Very nice Joshua, what temp did you incubate the millet and dung/straw mixture. A friend of mine has a couple of uncased spawn at room temp, and colonization is somewhat slow. I suppose you will be making some prints, interested in a trade or something, PM me.

I added the temp details above. Prints were not made from this flush. Prints may be made from the next flush though. I will post in the exchange forum if I can get some.

I find in vitro cultivation to be less productive, a lot messier, and generally not worth the time.

BTW...in a sence this is in vitro. I have taken an organism and am growing it outside of its normal environment. I think I know what you meant though.

Sorry to revisit an old post, but I thought it was such a great grow. I also have a quick question for this guy I know: how much oyster shell should be added to the kind of coir/verm casing you used. If you catch this, thanks for your time

I use an approximate recipe of 5 parts medium grade verm, 5 parts coco coir, and one part oyster shell all by volume. I guess the measurements when I make my casings. I do the same when I cook. The actual ratios that will work for a casing layer are pretty flexible. Some people case with all verm, some with all coir. The shell is added as a buffer so that the casing layer does not become acidic in later flushes. I haven't really experimented with the ideal amount of shell to add. I add it like seasoning...just a bit for flavour.

My last Brasilian casing lasted for two months. I got some pretty impressive late flushes. I have a friend who has been learning some techniques from me. He had excellent luck on his first try with Brasilian. He just picked his 6th flush and yeilded 1/2 oz. dry.

My impression is that this strain is very resistant to contamination and an extended fruiter. It is also one of the most beautiful strains I have worked with.

Here are pics from a rather disappointing 2nd flush. The flush was picked on 2/26. The lack of mass was due to improper timing for introducing my casing to fruiting parameters before the first flush. This flush yielded about 160 grams wet. I expect more from the third flush as more pins are already showing.

That is a lot. I suggest you buy books called Growing Gourmet and Medicinal Mushrooms or The Mushroom Cultivator, both are written by Paul Stamets.

These books will define terms and methods used in growing mushrooms. I use the same methods in my work.

I buy composted horse or cow manure. I then fill a pillowcase with as much as I want. I hydrate this to the proper moisture content and PC at 15 lbs for 1.5 hrs. I then cool the dung and spawn 1 qt of spawn to every 2 gallons of substrate. I like to use 3 gallon Rubbermaid containers (thanks Pleezr). I have also used all kinds of plasic containers.

When I made this mix, I cut straw to 3 inch pieces and mixed with the composted dung and followed the same proceedure I usually do.

Everything I could tell you and much more is in those books I mentioned. I strongly suggest you check them out if not buy them.

I noticed you have two areas near the center of the cake that didn't sprout any shrooms. i have had a similar situation. they seems to grow closer to the edges..not on the edges but just not really in the center of the cake.... is this a moisture problem?

Thank you, Joshua. 2 months, a 6th flush of 14 1/2 grams...wow! This guy I know will have to try the Brazilians next. He wasn't aware that casings became more acidic in later flushes, and will follow your 10:1 coir/verm to oyster shell recipe. Or, would a larger container (18 gal. Rubbermaid) w/ 4" of sub do better w/ just 10:1 coir to shell? Your current 3rd flush is looking very nice . Thanks for the help.
