G-Dead is WAY overrated, IMHO.
I like "Sugar Magnolia" & "Tons of Steel", they're okay.
Bustin' Ripple's balls is Kykeon's job, but I like it too!

eh, well it's about more than their music which, i'll agree, is mediocre.
there's a lot of culture and history surrounding them, not to mention a large, international community.

I love the Dead but, sadly, I am too young to have truly enjoyed their glory. Never got to see a show ....but, still, I'm a true fan!

Never quit a job. First show at Roosevelt Stadium, Jersey City, New Jersey, summer of '72. Saw them between 50 and 60 times, sometimes in small theatres like Passaic, New Jersey's Capitol Theatre. I used to hang out at college with a roadie named Sunshine, who used to go out with a friend of mine who went there (she currently works full time for the Grateful Dead organization, and I contacted her recently for the first time in 28 years!!). He liked to dose people. There's a photo of him with Jerry on the back of a pickup truck in 'The Grateful Dead Family Album,' page 121.

first show 2000
# of shows 14 ish
# of shows paid for: 1
# of shows got into: 6
# of jobs quit: 1
# of grilled cheese sold.... 1000's
Favorite years: 65-72 Most recent 'played out' cd jerry live at oregon state prison 1982 solo acoustic.
never had the privlage to attend a real show, but first saw phil & dylan in irvine. Followed for 3 days within 200 mile radius. only seen 'the other one's" one time, the rest were phil. Why dont we have more west coast activity? no one seems to remember pigpen anymore... a shame really cause the dead seems to have taken a major curve in thier music since his death. Not that it was a bad change, but something to be reconized. Guess it happend every time a member died.

The Dead are playing at Bonnaroo ... I don't think Jerry will be there though. I love the Grateful Dead.

Markos,
Never did see the dead at Roosevelt Stadium, however I did see some great shows there and as for the Capitol Theatre in Passaic what a great venue that was, I must have seen 20-30 shows there between the GD and JGB.

I love the Grateful dead I was in junior high when Jerry died, I had only been into there music for a year up to then. The dead changed my life. I seem to listen to them most when im really happy or when im really sad My friend and me were dead heads at 12 and 13. We would wander round the country side in GD tyi-dies and wholy jeans. Our old hippy friends would laugh at us and give us music and drugs We were ok. I remember the country-side when we would take out the pickup and go to the river blarin-out the dead and occasionally other bands. There was something about those days. I felt like I knew Jerry, I still do.
I sure do envy you guys who gotta experiece a show though, but we were ok

Do any of you fans feel like you know Jerry well because of the music or is it more of the stage appearances? I fell like this about Tool music. I can feel the emotions of Maynard and the rest of the band and I think I would easily be able to have a conersation with any of them because I understand their philosophy and thoughts. Does anyone have any beliefs that the amount of drug usage has increased this shared mental connection or is it just sober realization?

my course of action
