i hadn't heard of this stuff, so i did a little research . it took vary little, to find that the co. Amycel is a supplier of commercial mushroom spawn, and probably connected to, if not owned by Monterey Mushrooms, Inc. so, i don't doubt that it is a good additive for making compost . the question is would they sell you less then a ton .

I'll received from a friend, 1lbs of Spawn mate 2 SE by the end of the week. He never tried it and he told me it was a bit expensive.
It look like this stuff is unknown by psilocybe mushrooms cultivators, so I will experiment with it and I 'll report back my findings.
I will add some in grain substrate , brf cakes and compost.
peace

It's good stuff. My foaf bought 1 bag of the ProMycel 600. It did not make all that big a differance. Maybe a few %. Not really enough to notice.
If ya have a good bulk substrate of dung/ straw, compost or any good combo, ya don't need it to get multiple flushes & gross weight. Commercial mushfarms use it, when they have a high volume - low nute compost, so - it helps them out.
There is no spawnmate in nature & they grow big & fine in the wild. Best to mimic nature, as close as possible.
It is more about having a high nute substrate, at least 3 inches deep (4 or 5 inches is better), a pH balanced casing mix & optimal colonization & grow enviro.
One bag is all my foaf ever bought & when it was gone, he did not buy another.
You can also look up the patent. It is made primaily of rape (canola) seed.

So in general it doesn't do anything but waste money if ur already using good compost?
