email accessed from China
    #13194047 - 09/14/10 12:01 PM (13 years, 8 months ago)

I just got an alert on Gmail, that my email account was accessed from China last week. What to do? I have obviously changed my password, but even the password I had before was random letters and numbers. How did my email get cracked/hacked?

Maybe you have a keylogger installed on your computer.

Back up all your data, reinstall the OS, reinstall applications, update all your applications, copy your data back, and install Secunia PSI to make sure all your applications stay up to date.

Then change your password again.

Let us know if it gets accessed from China again.

This has happened to me twice in the past 3 days.

First time I ran a quick scan with Malware Bytes and got rid of around 15 threats. Then changed my password. But then 2 days later I log in and get the same thing.  So, I ran malware bytes again and again theres around 15 threats so I changed my password again...things seem to be ok for now.

If you had 15 malwares installed on your system you really should rebuild it following the steps I posted above.

There are millions of places backdoors can be installed on your system and no AV software can possibly check them all.

If you only have 1 or 2 malwares and you know exactly what they are and how they work then you might be able to clean your system.  But even in that case its better to install because its difficult to know exactly how many malwares you have and how they operate.
