Possible Stuntzii and Baeocystis - PNW
    #13185753 - 09/12/10 05:04 PM (13 years, 7 months ago)

I've found plenty of cyans in the past, but until now I've never had any luck finding Stuntzii or Baeocystis. Yesterday morning (9/11/10) I went on a hunt and I'm fairly sure that I managed to find both of them. This is all from one small section of grass in front of some apartments. I thought it was interesting to find both of them growing in the same spot when I've never managed to find either of them before.

Habitat: Well maintained grass with sprinklers

Location: Seattle

The ones I believe to be Stuntzii:

1.

2.

3.

4.

Gills: Off white for the fresher ones, brown for the older ones.

Stem: Durable, yellowish, bruising blue

Cap: Chestnut fading to yellowish around the edges or in the center. Convex with knob for fresher ones, flat for the older ones.

Spore print color: Dark pinkish to purplish.

Bruising: Blue bruising on stem, especially the ring. Not as much on the cap.

The ones I believe to be Baeocystis:

5.

6.

7.

Gills: Off white for the fresher ones, brown for the older ones.

Stem: Thick, durable, white, bruising blue. No noticeable veil remnants.

Cap: Muddy brown colored throughout. Conical to convex with somewhat of a knob. Bruising greenish

Spore print color: Dark pinkish to purplish.

Bruising: Blue bruising on stem. Green bruising on the cap.

Here is the full collection:

8.

And last of all, I want to introduce you to a friend of mine, Baeo Bill. He lives on my deck. I told him he'd already had enough but he insisted.

And here's what I assume it looks like from his point of view.

Thanks, I just posted it. I was 99% sure I had them ID'd correctly, but since I've never found them before I wanted to double check first.

Went back today since it's only a few blocks from my place. I was amazed to see how fast they grow. I never pick any pins so I wasn't counting on finding anything, but there were still plenty of full sized ones waiting for me.

Some new Stuntzii:

Some new Baeos:

Baeo Bill chilling with some of his friends:

I started making some prints of the larger fresher ones, but I really don't know much about how to do it or what to do with them. Can someone share a brief summary of the subject or point me to a link or thread which explains the process? Right now I'm making prints on little squares of aluminum foil and then folding them up and labeling them. Is that right or wrong? Also, when using foil, do you use the shiny side or the dull side?

Cover your prints with a sterile shot glass. Look on this website for the like on making prints. I cant find it right now, but it's here. it'll tell ya what you need to know. Nice finds :headbanger:

Having lived through an existence close to nature, one accepts the small and simple things as most important in life. Sun, wind, rain and snow. The sounds birds make, smells of fresh wild flowers. Love of all kinds, from friends and family, thy self and our neighbors. Beautiful sunrises to the darkest clouds dancing above in the sky. To forgive, learn, share and express. This is the only thing a man such as myself can ask for. What comes as the result is nothing short of the core of human existence, to truly live free in body and mind.

I made a bunch of P.stuntzii prints last year and sent them to people.  I just printed on foil, stuck in an envelope and sent them.

Apparently that's not the right way, as lots of people told me so who got them

Everyone was still nice though.  I guess you don't get to complain about free stuff
