I would recommend that you plant the poppies now, just to give them a head start. But there are a couple things you need to remember. Poppy sprouts are very fragile, they do not like to be transplanted. Dont sprout them in anything but dirt. I would use peat pots, planting a fair amount of seeds in each pot, and cover with very little soil. You want just enough to cover them, but no more than 1/4". Once they sprout you should weed out all but the best plant, leaving one per peat pot. Also, the light regimen is backwards for poppies in reference to MJ. They will flower when the days become longer. Once it is warm enough outside you can just plant the peat pot in the ground. Also remember to water them, but not too much. As stated earlier, they are very fragile and can succumb to stem rot very easily from too much water.

Its best to give your poppies a head start on spring IMO, but I dont think it would hurt to do the same for the rest either.

Good luck, and happy gardening ! Hurry up spring !!!!!
