I dont know what it was. I looked at a picture of the rainforest and my heart started beating fast. My eyes watered a little bit. Something deep inside of me is telling me to visit this rainforest next spring or summer.
Has anyone been there? whats it like?

I know what you mean. Ever since I can remember, I've had a longing to visit the Amazon rainforest. Whenever I see the rainforest on TV or in photographs I feel almost home-sick, as if the rainforest is my home. I'm planning on moving to South America sometime in the future. I'll most likely move to Peru.

The Hoh is one of my favorite places. If you have a few days, you can hike from the Elwa valley, up the Elsa river from near Olympic Hot Springs to the base of Mt Olympus, and then turn west and hike the length of the Hoh river through some of the most massive trees you'll ever see. Lots of edible mushrooms too, depending on season. The weather is dry a lot more during July and August, making for the best hiking and camping, but fewer mushrooms to pick.
I've got a lot of pictures of the Hoh, many of them from my plane as I explored the remote valleys and tributaries to the Hoh river. There's also some incredible waterfalls to see if you don't mind bushwhacking off trail. RR

It's a beautiful and awe inspiring place. It's what I envision when discussing what "untouched" Earth is like. I camped fairly close to there a couple days ago (see pics in my thread about 5 down from this one )

I heard that's Sasquatch territory.
I'm hoping to visit Olympic within the next year myself. It looks like the most beautiful place in the world.

The Olympic national park and the Hoh are nice but the drive around to Forks and beyond is downright depressing. It's a textbook case study in irresponsible logging practices, other wise known as clear-cuts and/or raping the land. What used to be mighty forests are now a wasteland. RR

God, I know. It's fucking disgusting.
The drive towards Mt. Rainer has some really bad clear cut areas

Here's a couple of pictures of Mt Olympus in summer showing the glacier that is the start of the Hoh river. I took these in July from my airplane. The first picture was taken from the west as i flew up the Hoh. The second is a closeup of the glacier feeding the Hoh river. I've also climbed that mountain. It's about a 7 day hike from the trailhead in the rainforest. RR
