well I never had a studdering problem before till I turned 19 or 20. I think it was caused be being out of society to long and social with only a couple people no one else. When I returned to society I had this anxiety when talking to people which gave me a studder. Drinking rids me of my studder but gives me a slur. Im sure everyone has a great laugh at this but it really is hindering. But if you are born with a studder I dont think drinking will help you. Are natural born studders caused by a speech impediment or is it the anxiety you get when talking with somebody(perhaps the anxiety caused by studdering)?

Ive been stutterin since I was six. Shit, it is the gayest bull shit ever. I fuckin hate this shit. I went to these classes to control stuttering but they didn't do shit for me. You can spend like 4000 on a thing they put your ear and it totaly stops your stutter, I might get it later cause this shit is mad wack.

A good friend of mine at work is going for the device you mentioned. Insurance only picks about half but they give an 80% guarantee. You wear it behind your ear and it gives a tiny electrical impulse to your brain and it's the newest thing out there.

PM me if you would like me to get you some detailed info.

I can relate. My stuttering was not that bad and would only really become a problem when I would answer the phone or speak in front of a group.I would have to answer the phone by saying "yes" instead of "hello" or else I would stutter like crazy. It made people think I was an asshole! When speaking in a group I would speak abruptly, which made me sound like I did not want to be there.
As I grew up It just went away. I stopped being so nervous around people. Do you get really anxious around people? If so, try to understand why. Sometimes extreme anxiety can cause stuttering.

extreme anxiety causes studdering, just like I thought thats the source of my studder. I never studdered until I started living in the fast lane. Guess that wont go away till I retire.

My advice is:

Get used to it. Love yourself regardless.
It may be a pain in the ass sometimes, but it helps define who you are.

Rin , you are a lucky sob. Not stuttering around chicks, shiet, I wish.

This shit does not help me define who the FUCK I am. It has fucked me over countless times and my life is shit. Most people dont know what the fuck it means to stutter, cant express yourself at all. If you do, your phrase comes out all messed up. It is the worst thing that has ever happend to me. If I had to choose between getting away with killing people and stuttering, I would choose murder. Call me crazy, heh

I feel perfectly fine around my friends and I still stutter. I dont feel nervous or anything and still, I stutter, If I rhyme or sing, my stutter goes away, otherwise, it's off and on, mostly on.

heh hmm I stutter sometimes too.  I don't really notice it, but sometimes people I'm with notice and when they notice I notice them notice and so I'm like "oh".  This mainly happens to me at work, where most of what I'll try to articulate is better left to a graph or diagram.  Anyhow I did it the other day, my boss just sort of glanced, I paused a second then said the sentence over in a different way, and I didn't get stuck on a stutter that way.

There are some words I just will stutter on, like "necessarily".  So I just don't say it, or I say it "necessarly".  Anyhow it seems to work out fine to me, I haven't been fired yet.

Whats worse, the fact that you stutter or the fact that you can't accept it?

You're aggravated by the stuttering. If you accepted it, you wouldn't be aggravated. Thats good enough reason. Furthermore, when you're not aggravated, you might even stutter less.

I used to have some social anxiety. So I went to a psychologist who advertised that they specialised in anxiety disorders, and I only saw him three times. I had to do some homework in between sessions which was the key part. On the third occasion I saw him it was significantly reduced so that it didn't interfere with my life anymore. I was quite skeptical that it would work because I had had it so long and I couldn't imagine myself without it, but it went! I'd encourage anyone to do the same. This bloke also worked at a uni and knew the latest. I'd ring the psych dept of your local uni and find out if they have any practicing psychologists in the department who specialise in anxiety disorders. It cost me $360 for the 3 sessions but it is the best 360 I spent in my life.

No, I just had social anxiety. Durban poison was saying that he thought that was the cause of his stutter, so I thought his stutter might go away if he addressed the anxiety .

I used to studder so bad when I was younger. I remember it would take me forever to get out any sentence that started with an 'I', and everyone would make fun of me and start going "I I I I I I I I " over and over when I was trying to talk :frown: school kids are evil, heh. I somehow grew out of it, even though I had one of the WORST cases of it I have ever heard, aside from a few people. It would sometimes take me a minute or 2 to get out the word I, that one was my biggest trouble. Ever since, whenever I hear someone make fun of somebody that stutters, I tell them to fuck off, even though I dont do it anymore. I don't think people realize how big of a problem it is for people, or they just don't care one. Im very glad I grew out of it, but if I didn't I wouldnt let that stop me or hinder me from doing anything I wanted to do. Your YOU, no matter what, and some shit you just can't change. If it doesn't get any better, I wouldn't worry about it. If people make fun of you, they are fuckin retards anyway. Just try to accept yourself for who you are, wich can be very rough, I will admit.

I saw Paul Stamets at a few lectures and he mentiond that he used to stutter quite a bit. He still does stutter, though he seems to keep it under control as long as his thoughts do not get ahead of him.

He mentioned his self therapy with P. Azurescens and how he worked with his self in order to get a grip on his condition.  Not advocating you do the same though it may be worth looking into. At least some introspective therapy.  Hope you make some progress.

I stutter aswell sometimes, it seems to go through phases. I can go a a few months without suttering, then suddenly it's back. It does suck, but I've learned to live with it nd accept it as part of who I am. It kinda feels good to know that I'm not alone here.

Here is the info:

Stuttering Treatment Home Page

Stuttering is an enormously embarrassing and frustrating problem that can affect your job performance, income level, social life, self-esteem, and emotional well being.

A new device, known as the Fluency Master, may help you stop stuttering now!

The Fluency Master is a miniature, wearable, electronic stuttering control device that looks like a hearing aid. It fits comfortably behind the ear, virtually hidden from view. The Fluency Master can control stuttering and significantly enhance the speech fluency of most people who stutter. The speed and amount of improvement produced by the Fluency Master in the treatment of stuttering are often dramatic. Click here for details on how the Fluency Master works.

Giving the Fluency Master to a stuttering person is like giving eyeglasses to a person with a vision problem. My last hypnotherapy client purchased the device you mention for 400 dollars. It didn't help much. Apparently only one session with hypnotherapy got rid of his stutter because he hasn't called for another appointment, and in trance it disappeared completely. Speech was fluid and flawless.

I am a hypnotherapist in Miami, and I have had excellent results. My first client was over ten years ago - horrible stutter - removed about 85% when I saw him years later. What little remained, he felt he could live with. Then, last week tw new clients - unrelated - who stutter only in Spanish. The female, 23, required 2 sessions. Called to report 70% reduction after first session. The second client, 36, male, has not called for a second session, and I had him speak at length in Spanish (as I did with the girl) while in trance. Stutter disappeared.

You see, according to a great Master hypnotist (died 1959) Dave Elman, a stutter is created when a child is prevented or forbidden to cry or to speak when [s]he needs to. If one goes back to the event while in trance, the emotional blockage, the conflict of 'cry-stop-cry-stop-cry-' that has been lodged in the [timeless] subconscious, can be removed. Based on this theory, I have seen remarkable results. I suggest you consult a reputable hypnotherapist through www.natboard.com in your area. Feel free to PM me with questions.

My bad. I reported that these devices can be had for $400.00, but I was incorrect. After speaking to a client who used one, but returned it, (and admitted to having bounced a thousand dollar check), he said all told, the price was $3200.00!! It did not work for him.

As for hypnosis, he has had some reduction in the stutter, quite a bit more reduction of anxiety, and has scheduled a second appointment for the stuttering. One session to perfection is unlikely, but two sessions seems to have done the job for my last hypnosis client.
