Bubbler Pod (HELP!) (Pics)
    #1315940 - 02/18/03 06:33 AM (14 years, 4 months ago)

I made this setup based on the infamous hydra-pod. I think I am having some trouble, ohh and I am all newbie.

Setup:

1.) Dome on top of bucket
2.) Running 2 airlines in water from air pump (24/7)
3.) Tray with lots of holes (drilled in) sitting on top of resovoir (pic #2)
4.) There is a little air flow doo-hicky (pic #3) on top of dome, I have open about 1/4 inch
5.) Temp is in upper 70's
6.) using cakes

Questions:

1.) There is no condensation building up in dome (there was a little at first, but no more) does this mean the humidity is low?
2.) Should I seal off the air flow valve (pic #3) completely?, and if I do the dome will be air tight..........
3.) so if it is air tight (might be dumb question) how will the air escape?
4.) Is this pinning? (picture #4 & 5)

Thanx for any help, Shroomers!

Pics:

2.)
3.)
4.)
5.)

I can answer #1, just becuase there is no condensation does not mean it is not high humidity. I know someone who has a grow chamber that can stay at 100% humidity and get no condensation what-so-ever.

no geolite rocks?? i thought even the old hydra-pod used geolite, but i'm sure the new one does. at least in the new pod, the geolite is used to wick moisture directly to the cakes.

you would have to go through a lot to make it truly air tight, so don't worry about that, imho.

What's the usual time frame from birth to pin again?

3 days + from birth to pin
you might want to look into using volcanic rock in there to sit the cakes on. can pick up a bag at pretty much any gardening store. its porous and can help with humidification as a substitute for geolite.

Your main problem is your top tray with holes in it.

You should have geolite in the top tray too.

Doesn't seem like you have anyway of wicking water up into the cake.

Seems like you have made a humidity pod...instead of a hydroponic unit.

I got some hydroton pellets (bud grower) but explain the whole perlite teq. where you just set the cakes on the lid of the jars, their is no wicking action in that? I thought the shrooms pull the moisture from the air?

I guess I'll throw some pellets on the tray if that will help!

Update:
Measured the temp at 79F
Humidity over 95%, maybe at 100 but no condensation (would it be correct to say that condensation only forms if the outside temp is cooler than inside, and this is my explanation)

Thanx all for your time! (damn newbies!)

Justed wanted to bump this beacuse I am basically still having the same problems. I now have alot of condensation on the dome (added some air stones to the tubing) but still no pinning (just one wierd looking popcorn like growth on my cake). I know the growth is a shroom (not contam) but it is way fucked up.

So I am asking hydra-pod (real or whatever) growers what is the correct calibration of these fuckin domes!

Thanx!
