Chespirito said: So you guesstimate that the materials alone account for $25. That sounds about right as Ive read from people that own stores that in general the cost of materials is going to be 1/5 of the store price.
it's not a guesstimate, just bought the same material for those gigantic overalls I mentioned earlier, bought 30 yards of it for a mere $300, a couple of months ago I bought 12yds of vinyl to reupholster a boat, it takes 1.6yds of fabric to make a pair of jeans with a 36" waist, 2yds of fabric for a 40" waist
now, if the jeans are $150 in stores, the materials costs $25 (that's yarns, fabric, buttons, zippers and rivets) then that means that their labor is $50 for 30minutes work if we're basing their cost at half the price of the jeans... if the distributor marks them up another 100%, guess what... they're over fucking priced especially given that they'll last no longer than a $30 pair of levis making my 5 pair a levis a far better value than that over priced designer hipster shit

Chespirito said: The jeans I posted are good high quality jeans. They are not a designer label and so cannot charge what some bullshit designer jean company would charge.
what makes them more special than any other pair of jeans, the age of the machinery doesnt make it any better, what weight of denim are they using, 12oz, 16oz, 20oz? I know that locally there's a store that sells jeans for $300 a pair just because they have some stupid painting on them, the jeans are like the others, a steaming pile of fashion

Ha some places do make a 24oz jean, it stands up on its own

Well as I said its generally considered that store price will be 5 times the cost of materials. Its not $50 for manufacturing, there are costs associated contracting all these companies, then the moving costs to bring the parts places. And coupled with the fact that this store isnt a particularly large customer you arrive at a pretty fair price. Is it the absolute dirt cheapest they could make it while still staying in business, well of course not...
Furthermore these jeans will last longer and look significantly better while wearing them. The fit is far better and the material looks much nicer, youd have to check out a good pair of jeans to really see the difference. The mall jeans you are referring to like Ed Hardy and 7 For All Mankind are cheap jeans marked up. You wont find a good pair of jeans near you unless you head into Atlanta and even then only a few stores in the city will carry them.

You bought the same material from the same company they are using?
As for the sugarcane I mentioned earlier http://www.sugarcanejeans.co.uk/
I wouldn't personally spend that much on jeans, but they do look and feel different from normal jeans. Some people take jeans real seriously, I just like jeans to fit real well and look nice.

what makes theirs any more special than any other selvedge cotton denim, the fact that the cotton if organic? I really dont understand the rational of charging more for using less but it's happening everywhere
what's made in firestone mills is the same as done at antex or westpoint pepperell, it's all selvedge, most manufacturers optimize usate and dont cut all the leg portions from the edges and use that as the selling point they could but it's wasteful and what the edge finish does is stop fraying, something frequently fixed by a roll and an extra minute of stitching on the exposed seams

I wouldnt either especially when I can pay $12-$18 for a pair of jeans that I'll get a solid 5-6 years of work wear out of before wearing through the knees

yes, the fashionistas do, some people just grab a pair that fits, others consider the cost vs durability, but buying a pair that's been distressed to make it look old and paying an ass load more for it is just ludicrous, I mean I get 7 pair to your one and I guarantee my 16oz denim will wear far better and feel more comfy after a year of use, or running them several cycles in the dryer with some old shoes or rocks
not to mention I wont be ultra pissed when I get an oil stain on a$150 pair of britches.... what kind of work do you do in your fashion jeans?
after seeing my shoes you can imagine how my pants fare

I think you are missing the point. These are not just for wear, they are meant to look good. They are raw jeans and so do not have artificial fades, you create all the fades on them. However I have no idea how you can claim cheap jeans last longer, Ive blown the crotch out on cheap jeans left and right. Once I started working and had money I upped my jean game, Im glad I have a few pairs now that Im poor again.

haha. so you own nothing produced oversea's in these so called "sweatshops"? how about you're shoes? you're book bag? nothing?
just saying they're are alot more noble things to throw that extra 120$ to here in our country then buying a 150$ pair of jeans. maybe a food shelf or united way?
im all for fixing and helping our own before we worry about other people's problems obama.
anyways, i wont derail this thread anymore. i just find that price way to high.

Well I like supporting American workers. They are a decadent jean, you'll get no argument from me about that.

Of course not. I realize clothes cost a lot for seemingly arbitrary reasons, however there are some clothing companies that care about what they produce. I get compliments from chicks all the time on my jeans. Anyways it's all irrelevant in the end

I guess me referring to fashion jeans that cost $150/pr really suggests I'm missing the point, any old pair of lee jeans does the same, looks good, same with levi's, wrangler or any other cheap pair of jeans you wont freak out over when you get some mud in them, at $150 they should be immune to mud, oil, grass, blood, red wine and mustard stains and be something you'll be passing down to your children in 20 years when the fashion is back in style
Quote:
However I have no idea how you can claim cheap jeans last longer, Ive blown the crotch out on cheap jeans left and right.
because I buy what's durable, how many years of work will I get out of a pair of Epaulet or APC or some other fashion 'dungarees', I go through a pair of Levi's in about 3 years before the knees are gone, I've only ripped the crotch twice, I go through Lee jeans and Wranglers in about 5 years, the Red Kap have lasted me 5 and other than a couple pair that snagged something, I'm still wearing the 11 pair I bought for $140, all of which started as indigo blue, kinda stiff with 16oz fabric, not like the 12oz that Epaulet's are made from but they shrink and stretch to conform to me and make for a nice pair of jeans at 1/10th the price
I dont buy expensive clothes because I work in my gear, my lovely shoes made it 3 months before the side blew out, it's like that with every pair, these were $80 and came from my nephew who never wore them, I had one pair of Nike that ran $120 and lasted 3 mos before there was a major failure, I had a $6 pair of Op's that lasted 9mos before they failed, and all my shoes look like the ones I posted before I toss them out
the price of goods doesnt reflect the quality or performance, it reflects the brand's popularity within the target market

These aren't work jeans man. Sure they could be but itd be crazy to go farming in them. Buy the 24oz jeans I posted above if you want something extremely strong. The point I was making was that I like supporting American businesses and American workers. I could afford more than $20 a pair of jeans and so chose not to support sweatshop labor in foreign countries. These jeans look better, no question. If thats not important to you than thats ok with me

'sweatshop' labor provides jobs to people that would otherwise be starving, what you're really supporting is capitalist greed and global warming

Pris your Wranglers lasted you 5 years?
I wear pretty much only Wranglers and the crotch always gives out after maybe 2 or 3.
Maybe it's because my penis is too much for the puny jean fibers to hold back for more than 2 or 3 years.
