Growing Criminis on BRF
    #1315761 - 02/18/03 03:44 AM (14 years, 1 month ago)

I'm wondering if you can grow criminis using the PF tek?  A little BRF a little verm, you know the routine.

They're a beautiful mushroom and they've got a nice size.  I'm wet behind the ears as far as edibles go, and it seems like alot of edibles are HUGE!!!

So afoaf is looking for a species thats about the same size as a cubensis.  Also one that sporulates.

Any ideas?  Any takers

Thanks!
Lana

well, you could try pf tek on mostly any mushie species w/ some success ( youd probly have to make some changes according to each species), but the problem is yield.. Pf tek is very low yielding- who wants 12 1/2 pint jars sitting for a long time for a dinner or two? In my experience oysters are bascally as big as cubensis, but youd need to change conditions for the optimum and whatnot... Sry im not givin much info, but ppl ask this every so often- search this forum for the other replies

As your mentioning a common name is it Agaricus bisporus you mean?

Criminis are just a brown form of the common button mushroom, Agaricus bisporus. They can fruit on grains, so you could expect to get mushrooms on BRF cakes. Unfortunately they need a biologically active casing to stimulate pinning. They also needed cooler temperatures. So if you have a cool basement and topped the cakes with pasturized or raw peat/dirt based casing, you may have success. There are probably easier species to work with to get the results you want.
