My PC lost the little rubber stopper thing. (Its the little black mark furthest from the handle) Well i used my cooker to make a stew, but instead of the stopper i used a cork... Can i still use this PC for Pint size Wild birdseed jars??

I believe it's easy to find a replacement for the rubber ring. I wouldn't use that PC the way you're doing it, it's out of standard so it could be dangerous, buy the rubber thing instead.

Measure the rubber ring size and diameter then search for something fiting those numbers.

it may be an air eliminator in which case if you seal it with a cork you will have air trapped in the PC and it wont get up to 121C

Can you provide some substantial explanation for this theory of yours?

Obviously Boyle was incorrect and temperature is related to substance rather than volume and pressure. With this in mind, air will have a different temperature than steam within the pressure cooker given a constant volume and pressure.... Be sure you calibrate based upon the type of substrates used. Each kind has a different temperature as well and this needs to be taken into account to obtain the temps needed for sterilization.
(The above is tongue in cheek and not true!)
Though I do seem to remember something from that awful thermal transfer class that claims steam transfers heat much better than air. Perhaps Boyle was correct after all...

Yup. And excatly THIS is the reason why one should vent the air out of the pressure cooker, NOT some "won?t reach the temperature if air inside" tales.

Magic !! That little rubber thingie is the over pressure blow out. I believe they have been standardized for decades and should be available. Do not bypass it unless you install a proper pressure guage and pop off valve. Peace.

ok. i should have said "it wont get up to 121C as quick" if there is air trapped inside it will take your jars longer to reach 121C so your pcing times will have to be longer

Yes, this sounds better.
