Prayer
    #13133569 - 09/01/10 12:55 PM (13 years, 4 months ago)

Do any of you pray, or have had prayerful moments?

When i look back at my personal search for the truth i can remember key prayerful moments where i was suffering so intensely i was begging the universe to reveal itself, or prayerful moments where i pray for the universe to remove my ego, to remove 'me' and leave 'thee' type thing.

Looking back i really see these moments as the opening of the flood gates of truth, years ago i would have scoffed at the idea of prayer, but now i see it as such a beautiful thing, the very admittance of something greater than your mind is powerful and the act of prayer is that admittance

Burn me, leave not a trace of 'I'

Ultimate Reality cannot be less than personal, that would make persons superior. Ultimate Reality must therefore be Transpersonal, having personality (inasmuch as persons are contained within, and derivative of Ultimate Reality) but transcending it. Attempting to commune with Ultimate Reality from a human subject cannot help but be personal, howsoever unemotional it may seem, because we are personal. I have always prayed and will undoubtedly continue to do so. Do so-called atheists cry out "Oh matter!" when they have sex? And, of course, the old adage still applies: 'There are no atheists in foxholes.'

If thoughts are as "physical" as concrete buildings and clouds in the sky, and they are, then there is no reason why prayer, even silent prayer, should not be able to connect with physical reality through the mind. Prayer is as much an expression of reality as any other observable movement. At some point the strict discrimination between different phenomena can cease, but for now prayer can be seen as an integral aspect of personal and global transformation. Why not?

I think its just about humility to be honest

Really your only ever praying to your own consciousness so the one praying is the one being prayed to, but the act of the mind praying shows humility in that mind, i feel that moment of humility, even if its only a moment, cleans something

It definitely takes humility to pray authentically, without desire. So it's a good sign when something starts a real prayer within consciousness, a simple honest "thank you" perhaps, or a humble request to cleanse the mind.

Ask and ye shall receive.

I haven't been with a non-English speaking woman, but I'm pretty sure that women from European and American cultures do make this exclamation.

Your needs are no more or less important than anyone else's. Putting everyone else's needs before one's own does not make one a saint, it means that one is co-dependent. Recognizing the equality of one's own needs indicates objectivity and balance.
