broken cakes.

Let's say someone noticed a couple of their jars had stalled, and the growth had stopped right where the BRF/Verm seemed to be overly damp. So this someone flipped those jars over, tapped them lightly and 2 out of 3 just nicely slid down, exposing the overly moist areas. They were then returned to the incubator, and within a day or two, the mycelia began taking over the formerly too-wet portions with a swiftness.
But one of the jars, well, the doggone cake broke. The bottom half stuck to the bottom of the jar and remained all too-moist and such. While it was pretty damn cool to see the colonization inside of the cake (which made them feel better, since this wasn't even one of the most colonized cakes yet), it made me worry that this cake would be a waste, since he couldn't expose the too-wet portion, and therefore the mycelia wouldn't colonize the rest, and boom - lost cake.
Yeah, I know, boohoo, but of course, they'd want to get the best results from as many cakes as possible, right?
Any ideas if this cake is salvagable, even if the broken part doesn't colonize entirely? I was thinking if they could simply recover the top portion of the cake, they could use it in the smallish casing they're planning.

Case the colonized part. Or spawn some more substrate with it, your call..... Or bury it outside with plenty of dead leaves... or ... .... .... Dont throw away colonized substrate!

Really it doesnt matter, just smack the bottom of the jar while it's up side down and the two pieces will come together, the mycelium will reknit and the cake will be for the most part whole....even if it isnt, it still doesnt matter, because as long as you dont take it out of the jar it will remain sterile and finish its colonization...
I have a cake in my incubator thats 4 months old, I have encourage wet rot by adding very wet vermiculite to the mix.....it's goo....I ripped the top half in the same manot you did and brok it up....its regrowing....
It's hard to kill the mycelium unless it's exposed to high temps....usualy above 95F
