The Japanese Mushroom Shimeji looks a little like cubies if the person is not that familiar with what a cubensis looks like.

S. rugoso-annulata a.k.a. King Stropharia is very similar in both appearance and growth paramaters. I does require a casing and if not picked young can grow to 3-5 lbs!! I remember reading Stamets comparing the two in one of his books, but couldn't find that reference. I will attach a pic to help.
