AFOAF upgraded from tubs to a semi-automated greenhouse recently and would like any advice from some more experienced growers. AFOAF used what they had laying around the house for the most part but definitely tried to create the best possible combination as they knew how.
The setup includes:
3 - 15 minute timers with 96 'pins' 1 - Adjustable Ultrasonic Humidifier piped with 1 3/4" hose to the top rear of the greenhouse 1 - 2 bulb shop lamp running 47 watts @ 6500k running 12/12 1 - 4 tier greenhouse 1 - Hepa/UV lamp air purifier cut into the top front of the greenhouse and running on low 1 - Micathermic heater attached to the wall set at approximately 74 degrees 1 - Cooler for jars 2 - Analog Hygrometers 1 - Digital Hygrometer with temp 1 - under-bed bin which is catching the water vapor and also has about 4" of perlite
Currently they have been running the air purifier for FAE 24/7 on low and then running the Ultrasonic 45 on and 15 off... This is where they have the main concern...This setup has been producing results but they feel it could potentially be better.
The US doesn't soak the whole greenhouse terrible bad since the ultrasonic is adjustable and it gets a good 15 minutes to dry off.. but they still dont feel this is perfect..
What would be the best recommended timings for the US and Fan in your personal opinion?
If they shut both the fan and the US off it keeps the humidity pretty well.. However another concern is evaporation for pinning.. If the fan is run without the US it definitely lowers the humidity in there so they have to have it turn back on after that to keep the humidity high enough.
Also how the piping is placed in relation to the fan it creates a super fine mist throughout the whole greenhouse with little to no soaking effect.

Too complicated for my liking. Just expressing my opinion. However, I do like that you're an innovative individual.
I'd just use:
1 - 4 tier greenhouse 2 - Analog Hygrometers 1 - Digital Hygrometer with temp 1 - under-bed bin which is catching the water vapor and also has about 4" of perlite 1 - Adjustable Ultrasonic Humidifier piped with 1 3/4" hose to the top rear of the greenhouse (yea this would be better then spraying but I don't mind the spraying again if I had it I'd use it. 1 - 2 bulb shop lamp running 47 watts @ 6500k running 12/12 - Honestly, I would just use CFL's personally but hey if I had it I'd use it. 3 - 15 minute timers with 96 'pins'
I would however do FAE myself just because I'm not that too crazy about the A/C unit. The rest of the stuff I don't know its complicating stuff more than it should I think personally.

This post is interesting to me as I am using a greenhouse with a Vicks going continuously while I am at work and 1/2 hour out of every two hours when I am home.
...this is all while I figure out my real martha setup. I have a cool mist, and a Vicks, already for it, but in my experience neither alone or together really got my grows moist (i.e "soak the whole greenhouse"). I think that I need to add a fogger to the setup.
Good Luck!

Thanks for the input so far guys... Some questions for anyone interested..
1) Is 24 hours of FAE bad? I always heard more is better as long as you can maintain humidity.
2) If wax paper is used as a 'casing', How often should the substrate be misted "directly"? Usually once or twice a day afoaf will pull the wax paper off for an hour or so to let it get misted and then 'dried'.
3) What is the lowest RH that should be allowed during the evaporation phase?
4) The colonizing jars are kept in a cooler. Should the cooler be kept open, slightly cracked or closed to you think? The jars don't have any special tape on them, just a dry verm layer so contam is a slight worry although there is a Hepa/UV Air purifier running in the room 24/7
Afoaf was trying to collect more questions to ask at one time but I think he forgot some.. Any answers are appreciated though.
Thanks
