Casing soil soaked in 3% peroxide

Today my friend cased 4,5 halfpint cakes by crumbling them in a tray. Because he had little time left, he could'nt PC the casing soil and the verm for the bottom of the tray, so he decided to wet the verm and the casing soil in 3% peroxide instead of plain water. Is this H2O2 concentration too high, will it hurt the mycelium? The verm layer on the bottom of the tray and the casing layer were both 1cm high. The crumbled cake layer is 4cm high. He also innoculated 12 petriplates today, each with spores of a different strain. Sadly it was peroxidised malt extract agar he made!!! All the work for nothing as all the spores will be killed. It was a good lesson to learn that you have to be a little sober when doing those things. Anyway, so what do you guys think? Will the casing survive??? Thanks.

Yes, your casing will survive. The oxygen may actually help to induce pinning. Edit: But, peroxide doesn't eliminate all contams, you know. You might want to take your crumbs and change media after soaking in bleach. Good luck.

But if its totally OK to sterilise your casing soil with 3%peroxide, why doesn't everybody do so instead of going trough the trouble of pressure cooking etc.? :confused Edit: oops, I didn't see the edit of BigJohnson, but I think I'll take my chances without changing the casing layer and without the bleach. I know its risky, but I cased with verm/ coco coir and this is supposed to be sterile by itself.

some people don't cook it at all, some cook it a little, almost no one uses a PC for casing material.
