Overnight in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness (pics)
    #13088063 - 08/22/10 08:24 PM (14 years, 4 months ago)

I do this kind of thing a lot, but this weekend was a real treat for photography so I figured I'd post a few here...  hard to believe this place was only about 6 miles from a major highway and me and a friend were the only ones there...  I'm definitely not complaining though ...

Cooling off out there now and bugs are slowing down, berries are ripening and fall colors will be starting to come on soon.  Best time of year to go if you ask me...

The alpine lakes are one of my favorite spots.  Did you get a soak at goldmeyer hot springs?

nope RR, this place would be a pretty long haul from the middle fork valley.  we were closer to stevens pass than snoqualmie...  never been to goldmeyer but I've heard of it...

I agree the ALW is a really special place though, definitely has it's own unique character compared to other wilderness areas out here that I've been to.

thanks all

Majorly enjoyed those photos, especially the second to last panoramic one.

That's pretty friggin rad. I have seen some beautiful scenery, but, damn. The pink clouds in the one are beautiful. .. And did you really overnight without a tent?? Dude, I couldn't do that where I go. Every time we've been backpacking, we have had at least one bear within 5 feet of it of our tent. I don't want a bear coming up and sniffing me. Eeek.

Again, beautiful pictures and thank you for sharing.

PDU: The ALW is in the central WA cascades, bordered by i-90, hwy 2 and hwy 97.

misos: yeah, if weather is supposed to be good and I'm going up high I usually just take the bivy rather than haul a tent.  there's not much large wildlife in places like that besides goats and marmots.

LittleRaisin: passed Hope Lk and Trap Lk on the way, camped at Thunder Mtn. Lks.

They should have filmed Lord of the Rings in the PNW.

These are epic photos.
