duck tape not sterilized

I used wide mouthed jars, w/ holes poked in the lids. i put foil over the holes and boiled it. afterwards i remembered that i should have put duct tape on it. so i did. i took the foil off( outside, doh!) and knifed pieces of duct tape and covered the holes, then put the foil on them. (except for 2, the wind blew them off the table.. doh!)
are the jars still ok? there is dry verm on top, and i dont know of anythign that could live off of rubber and adhesive.
thanks

I think masking tape is preffered?... I'm no expert so I cant say if it will be alright... seems like the verm layer would help... but I have heard that duct tape causes mildew contamination if used to seal a grow chamber...

well, im not using it for a grow chamber, just putting it over the holes in the jars. should I take it off after innoculation?
and i have a few more questions. for an incubator it says use 2 boxes, one inside the other. will it be ok if i just put the jars in the water? if not, why not? and in the pf tek it says to use an alcohol candle for sterilizing the needle, but a regular lighter is OK. is the black stuff on the needle after using a regular lighter ok? or should i use a paper towel to whipe it off while it is still redhot? thanks

see if i can help you can put the jars in water when colonizing, but when you fruit, you need a dry surface to put the jars on
wiping the needle when red hot causes a few problems. youll burn the fuck out your finger, and if its cool enough not to burn, then the towel will contaminate it.
just get a bunch of alcohol wipes, and wipe the needle after each innoculation. the towels will dry quick, thus making them worthless, so make sure you have about 8-10 per dozen jars. if you have a fishtank heater, or some heater, just put it in a big jar of water so you have a dry area to put the fruiting cakes, but it will also warm the box

I would think that you might get excessive moisture in the straight water... and you need to open the jars for colonizing eventually... also the second tub keeps alot of water from evaporating... but here are two different incubator techniques
http://www.myco-tek.com/TEKs/Incubation.htm
http://www.fungifun.org/pf/incubator.htm
also are you using grains or the standard MMMG/PF tek?
I would think that innoculating might cause contaminants with un sterilized duct tape but I could be wrong. you have no masking tape? or is this already done?

its brf/verm. i just put duct tape to cover the holes. i had masking tape, but could not find it. it put the duct tape after sterilization. should i put masking tape over it and re-sterilize? or do you think i would still be ok?

you are tweaking too much .tape isn't necessary . i would have left the foil on until ready to inoculate . as for incubation, do not float the jars ! set them on something solid so they don't tip over and take on water . it is much better to have a separate container if you can manage it . if the jars are in the water, monitor the water temp, if out of the water, " air temp . there can be much difference . i suggest you study up on sterol procedure while waiting for those jars to contaminate .
