Mixed mycelium jars?
    #1307987 - 02/14/03 12:28 PM (13 years, 9 months ago)

A friend of mine mixed up my jars of mycelium [6 jars, containing two different types of spores] ....

I'm planning on casing them, and was wondering if anything significantly bad would happen if the casing ended up containing the two different types in one casing?

i'm planning on 3 jars per casing.

thanks

hmm, that was a shame. if you do make a mixed casing, your yield will suffer because of it. maybe you should make cased-ended cakes, or single-cake casings this time around, and label your jars better next time.

good luck, whatever you do.

would one jar casings be as effective as 3 jar casings?

if three of the jars are starting to grow mycelium, while the other 3 jars hasn't really started yet ... does that mean that those three jars belong together? [i have 3 jars with golden teachers, and 3 with equadors]

i can't believe this happen! a friend was over here, and was moving it around to make room for something else, and mixed it all up! :X err

anyways

any help is appreciated! thanks!

Well, I'm no expert, but I'd case them all. You might as well, seeing as how you don't really know what you're going to get if you do 2 casings with 3 jars. Less work, materials, and space needed with just a single casing. But, as I said, I'm no expert

The mycelium of the two different strains will compete, and one will win out. Thus a full jar completely lost. This is what my dog told me. He says that you will get higher yeilds doing one cake casings instead of taking chances on guessing which cake is which.

One probably will not fully "win out".

if three of the jars are ahead of the others, i would bet on them being the same. but, no telling which witch is which . :smirk:

.... now looking @ my jars. ....

the three that i saw that were way ahead, are WAY WAY ahead now .....

the other three are barely [not even anything] growing yet ......

I hope that the three that are ahead belong together, because i think i might just take my chance with them :frown:
