I have these boxes I made.
I am going to get some sand or pebbles and put some of my hens and chicks into them.
I'm hoping since they don't need much water that it won't mess up the paper.

Not to sully up the Official Bonsai Thread with origami but some folks may want to try it. It's by no means a simple fold but it comes out looking pretty cool.(maybe functional)

That reminds me of a "potato bonsai" product I'd heard about.

Good luck with the little bonsai kit, may it grow well and prosper for you
And those origami boxes are way cool, why not line them with a plastic bag or maybe a small plastic tub (like recycle a margarine container?) so that your water doesn't even come in contact with the paper? You could have the plastic just below the soil line so that you can't see it, but you'll know your watering boundaries.

Finally got my bonsai today in the mail. Its just a youngster and it was in a pretty narrow box, but nevertheless, I'm fuckin stoked!!!!
Got some soil for it today, but I still need to read up some more on repotting it and what not. So yeah.... thought I'd let you guys know.
Heres a pic

Those are awesome man! I love how irish moss looks in mini landscape settings. We had a cool bowl with a conifer, dianthus and some sedum along with irish moss as grass.
Its fun stuff. I want a Fairy Hair maple and Banyan bonsai pretty bad.

Picture from least spring when I dug up a cedar to bonsai.
These are Dwarf Hinoki Cypress's from Japan, 60 years old, 40 years in training. Snapped this at the Philadelphia Flower Show this year.
