Why do freedom fighters become terrorists?
    #13076813 - 08/20/10 01:00 AM (12 years, 9 months ago)

No, this is not about different perspectives such as "One man's freedom fighter is another man's terrorist".

I am talking about people who fight against oppression often become more oppressive and brutal than those they fought against.

A few examples: Fidel Castro, The Mafia, many American ethnic gangs such as The Crips and so on.

I guess one can easily go from killing to defend to killing to take. Power corrupts... :blah:

They weren't fighting for freedom in the first place, just their own way. And once they got it they kept it that way.

I'm thinking the more specifically a solutions defined, the more oppression there is towards everything other than it.. The less freedom there is. So the best systems wouldn't be based on specifics, but general principles. Then specifics could adapt and keep relevant with the times.

That was really vague :crazy2:

Which American gang isn't "ethnic"?

Those were never considered freedom fighters.  Did they ever fight for freedom?  To me a freedom fighter fights for individual liberty, something very few soldiers or fighters in history has done.

I'd say that freedom fighters who 'become' terrorists are portrayed that way by media giants so they look like terrorists and people turn against them.

Simple way of turning mass heads in another way.

Every situation is different.
Sometimes all they were ever after was power, how will you know?
Sometimes discipline is required to resist a culture based on hedonism, which may be against the traditional values of the people under occupation.
