Donuts don't have holes in them.

They're solid unbroken objects in the shape of a torus. And this shape defines them as a donut.

A piece of bread is a flat square shape. You can put a hole in a piece of bread, and you've got a piece of bread with a hole in it.

But you can't find any 'donuts without holes' because then what you have is not a donut, it's a Danish or a Bear Claw or an Eclair.

To put a hole in an existing donut you would have to puncture it somewhere else than the center, and then it wouldn't be a proper torus anymore, topologically speaking. More of an "8".

Also, notice that the small spherical pastry sold as a donut hole will not fit into any donut.

( If all this was an exteneded metaphor, which I hope it wasn't, I'll leve it to you figure it out. )

wow... you guys have interesting names for the little round "donuts" that supposedly come from the middle of the other donuts.

here in canada, we call them "timbits." lol..

The fact is that in a certain state in the development of all mamals (im not sure how it is in other species, could be the same process) we go through the "torus shape".
One "opening" becomes our mouth and the other "opening" becomes our anus.
There are some pretty cool images of this stage taken with electro microscopes, not sure were to find them though.

Perhaps that would make a good argument to the ethics of cloning; hell if we WERE donuts at one time why not make more?? Who doesn't like donuts?
