cortizone shot

Hi the doc wanted to inject cortisone into my wrist for nerve pain in my wrist.I politely declined, to his shock, and he wanted to know why. I told him that I felt I would have a bad reaction to it. I actually don't remember why cortisone would be bad but I have always read in natural health posts that it is, and I will never consider using it....but waswondering if anyone had some good reasons why cortisone is not good to put in our bodies so I can have a better response for next time. Thanks for your help!

Long term effects:
Quote:
Long-term cortisone use potentially has a number of severe side-effects: hyperglycemia, insulin resistance, diabetes mellitus, osteoporosis, anxiety, depression, gastritis, colitis, hypertension, ictus, erectile dysfunction, hypogonadism, hypothyroidism, amenorrhoea, and retinopathy, among other problems
If your pain isn't serious I would just stay the fuck away from it and stick with opiates (if possible)

I think I heard somewhere that is actually increases the rate of joint deterioration. If that is the case you're just compounding your problems. I wouldn't do it either.

The pain is severe enough that i cant work. Taking opiates isn't an option, going on five years soon.
But there are class action lawsuits pending over the use of cortisone I've found. And i dont want to be forced into taking an injection of a drug that may harm me severely down the road of life.
so if anyone knows a link to some solid info on cortisone i would like to enlighten myself and my doctor

What kind of wrist pain, is it like tendonitis? Does it respond well to anti-inflammatories like ibuprofen? If so, I suggest taking a couple grams of turmeric each day.

Sooo, the doctor wants to give you cortisone for nerve damage? Isn't that for when the cartilage in your joints breaks down? Work comp doctors are shills.

Yep, your doctor is insane. Everyone knows you can cure most ailments with a few hits of LSD or some mushrooms. If it's a nasty case mainlining DMT usually sorts it. Stupid medical profession, thinking they know shit about healing... /sarcasm

That sounds like a reaction from someone with tons of insight on the subject....Well, what is your professional opinion doctor? Are you gonna help the ole boy out with your endless wisdom or just be an ass?

Cortisone injections can help tendon pain. Sometimes they don't help. If they're done repeatedly, they can weaken said tendon, so if it doesn't work after the second time, further injections aren't a great idea. Even if it does work, repeated injections still aren't a good idea. I'm not aware of any adverse systemic effects of local cortisone injections, the effect is site specific, and shouldn't enter the general circulation unless your doc hasn't a fucking clue what he is doing. I've had a couple myself, one in my shoulder and one in my coccyx. They didn't seem to work, though saying that, my shoulder an coccyx pain got better eventually, so I can't rule out that they had some effect.. I'd say OP doesn't have much to lose trying it, except money? I don't know how medical care works where he lives. HTH.

thanks for the info guys i told the doc that im going to wait at least a year before i let him inject a tendon deteriorating steroid into my wrist. i look at it this way if the drug deteriorates tendons over time and application. all that means to me is that it takes a few shots for the symptoms to be greater than the pain you were trying to prevent. so after the first injection the damage is started and irreversible.
kinda off topic but
cortisone is produced neutrally in the body in the liver. "i think" the cortisone that the doc uses is synthetic.
RGHB is a hormone found in cows naturally that helps the production of milk. the FDA approved synthetic RGHB to be used on dairy farms to increase the milk yield. "i was told" that in china there is a 18month old that has more hormones in here body than a pregnant woman, and she has breasts. doctors are saying that it may be caused by RGHB. i dont think that report has hit the states.
im not saying that i think i will grow Brest's. im just saying dont trust government agencies that govern themselves

cortisone is a steroidal anti-inflammatory, like NSAIDs but SAIDs, and that said, dexamethasone which is used in alot of emergency sport injuries is about 20-30 times stronger than cortisol. The body produces hydrocortisone which therefore is a fairly natural drug and it lasts a long time in local tissue thus providing shrinkage and relief. There's not much to fear from an occassional shot of cortisol. BTW, this thread is extremely boring and I can't believe I'm vbored enough to answer, that's my good deed for the day and I'm outta here.

I wasn't joking either, ketamine could relax the pain. You don't have to take too big doses either.

How about "No." - When did that become not a good enough reason? "No thanks." "No." "Nein" - we aren't under enforced medicine yet.

I think the anti-cortisone people are just scare mongers. Given the circumstances, I'd take the shot. And I wouldn't try opiates for something like that, it just masks the pain and doesn't address the actual problem. But this is a recreational drug site after all, so responses like that are to be expected.
Wishing you the best, man. Don't sketch out. It's just a cortisone shot and it really sounds like it's worth whatever small risks are involved.
