Removal of Masking Tape??
    #1305811 - 02/13/03 12:42 PM (21 years, 1 month ago)

Hi, my ferret has had his jars incubating for about a month, nice growth, almost all covered except for bottoms. He had put tape over the holes in accordance with Mr. PF Tek, but now hes thinking of removing the tape to dispense of some of the CO2 buildup and maybe speed colonization. Good Idea?

I removed my tape and flipped after 50% colonization and had full colonization a week later ...no problems with contams. As long as you have a verm barrier in the jars and don't breath into the holes i would recommend it

Taking the tape off won't hurt your jars as long as there's vermiculite on top. I know someone who had the same problem and taking the tape off solved it.

No problem. It may be a good idea to cover them with tin-foil though...

My ferret was so happy with the speediness of the replies he nearly soiled his little pen. I think he will proceed to flip and strip his jars. Thanks for helping him out =).

Having neither tin foil or tape over the holes is fine as long as their is a verm barrier

odinssun: i noticed that in a few of my jars the protective verm layer is a little loose and shaky in the jar. i fear that if i flip it, the layer will shift and expose the substrate to dangerous air. what to do??
