AFOAFOAFOAF is having the same problem. this is his first cultivation attempt also. hes going to try to switch and use grain or birdseed instead....

Shake the jars really good, but don't do anything drastic.

My friend told me that he's had colonization times in less then 11 days in a decent incubator with PF Cakes.

Sometimes they colonize very quickly from what I hear!

I might be able to help with that. I am a newbie at this hobby.... but a smart one! I have gone through about 3 different grows, maybe 4 or 5 including failed/ partially failed. As far as cakes go.... My first attempt at them succeeded... but took close to a month to colonize. My recent cakes colonized in less than 14 days. Here is the difference.....
1) I packed the substrate far more losely. My first attempt i sort of crammed it in there figuring more substrate = more growth. I think this might be a typical mistake.
2) I raised temperatures. 84 degrees using an inc.
3) i turned the jars upside down and loosened the lids halfway through colonization.

I hope this helps someone
