Awesome news for the southeast. I have a feeling the weilii may be up here in Georgia. Last night I had a very strange dream, in which i awoke, walked outside with my dog like i do every morning, and I was surrounded by incredible mushrooms (some enormous with tentacles coming out of the caps). I woke up when I picked a lone weilii. Im checking my patches tomorrow.

It really depends on the weilii mycellium. It may go dormant during cold weather instead of dieing away, which would mean we could be seeing Weilii as early as now.

Nah, it takes six weeks or so of proper temps and conditions for weilii to start fruiting again, not just a warm day here and there with an occasional rain. Earliest I've ever seen them out was in early april. Theres no way in hell weilii would be up and fruiting in febuary. Hell, we just had record breaking cold snaps back in january, and I still see frost on the ground every other morning or so, and weilii won't fruit during a frost, in fact they will almost immediately abort and turn black over night if it gets down in the 20's.
My general observation is that morels come up first, about 2-3 weeks after the morels are done weilii makes its first appearance. This has been the case for the past 4 years anyways, and I've tried finding them ealier every year. A few years back during our droughts peak, it wasn't until mid june when the first weilii came up.
Anyways, keep them eyes peeled for the morels, here in GA its definitely starting to warm up nicely, and we had our first warm rain last night, as welll as some thunder and lightning, the great sounds of spring. Shouldn't be long

I'm going to Miami a week from Wednesday. Can anyone PM me on a field that might be acessable from (and near by) the Interstate. It would be left in the condition it was found, minus a few mushies.

isnt this a violation of board rules? if not im sorry i meant no offense to you vertigo but even then you really shouldnt just ask for a field like that. maybe someone down there would help you look and show you some things to look for if you asked. peace
