help!! My Experimental Set-Up
    #13044349 - 08/12/10 11:35 PM (14 years, 5 months ago)

ok here it is. im looking for feedback and ideas to help this set up improve.

1. im using the generic pf tek brf cakes 12 1/2 pint jars
2. mixed the substrate exactly as explained in the tek steamed for 90 min then let cool.
3. inoculated each jar with 1 cc spore syringe in 4 holes then taped holes. (cubensis)
4. incubated and 28-31 degrees celsius until jars were completely white then let sit for an extra week.

5. birthed the cakes. no contams. dunked for 12 hours in mineral/spring water. rolled in sterile verm. added about a soup spoon full on the top and placed on jar lids filled with damp verm.

terrarium set up.

- one 18g clear tub
- tropic aire humidifier air exchanger
- elite (not so quite) 844 air pump recommended for 20g tank (on timer)
- now instead of drilling holes on all sides. i drilled 2 in spaced holes on bottom side, and 2 inch spaced holes along the bottom and up the corners of the tub to the top. also put a few holes in the lid.
- filled the tub about 3 1/2 inches full of moist perlite (now the holes along the sides are just above the perlite.
- let the tub sit for a few days while i figured out how much time the pump needed to bee on and off for.
- set timer for 1/2 hour every 1 1/2 hours.
- fc is keeping a constant 85% 95% humidity

1. placed cakes close together in fruiting chamber
2. misted the cakes lightly on and off for about 2 hours
3. closed the lid
4. exposed to natural light or at least 12 hours a day. not direct just in a bright room

RESULTS SO FAR

day 4 in fc
cakes start to get a bit fluffy

day 6
humidity 90-95%
fae no fanning because of tropic aire
pins start on one cake. none on others.

in between these days.
i unsealed my fc humidity was dropping a bit so i started misting maybe once a day. and fanning.

day 13

all other cakes nice pin sets lots of pins. the first cake is ready to harvest but the fruits are really small maybe 1-2 inched tall and caps about the size of dimes.

still waiting for other cakes.

so now my questions are.

what would cause one cake to colonize faster then the rest?

what could be the cause of the small fruits (i know that this is a tricky question and could be many things) but by judging by my technique what could be the main reasons for small fruits?

what are your ideas for changes i could make to improve fruit growth?

any help is welcomed and i will add more pics when i get the chance (sorry my camera sucks these are the best pics i have.) if there is anything i missed as far as info goes just ask and i will be happy yo reply

please dont post things like ditch the humidifier and just do a regular shot gun fc. i am trying to experiment with new set ups.
thanks.

One reason for the small fruits may be lack of nutrition in the substrate. It has been shown that using natural waters, like from a lake or river are better to use in the substrate! as for why one cake colonizes faster than another could be any number of things and is virtually impossible to say why!

looks good tho!

what strain?

i got the strain from sporepod but the weird thing in i cant find any info on it they call them golden mammoth (aureus tantus) but i haven't seen or herd about them anywhere else. i think small fruits may be caused by a crappy strain in this case, but i will have to see what happens with the other cakes and flushes.

thanks
