Air exchange in jars
    #13041805 - 08/12/10 02:24 PM (14 years, 5 months ago)

I am studying in a town like 120 km away from my hometown, I have no own car and no own PC so I was thinking about transporting Jars secretly from A to B via train and pocket.
Would it be a good idea to just make one injection hole and seal it with silicone and then instead of using tyvek AE-holes just leaving the lid slightly open and put a sterile coffee filter over it and maybe tape it to the glass? So that maybe you can close the lid again and even transport the jars in a bag without the risk of spilling water. I found this to be nice because you can also shake LCs in that jar or whatever.
Just gathering ideas and teks.

Would you recommend this?
Would you say this AE-tek is going to work?
You may choose only one

You can flip the jar lids upside down.  This prevents a perfect seal and will allow gas exchange (not air exchange, like you said), which is what you want.  Then you only need one hole for inoculation.

However, its best not to put yourself at risk by traveling with things that may or may not be illegal in your area.

I don't think mycelium is illegal where I live due to very small amounts of Psilocybin but thanks for your concern.
It's nice to get some valid answers because I'm quite a noob. I'm digging through this board for one and a half weeks now but I still find that I'm just at the beginning.

I've been reading for the last few months and although I feel I've got the basics down, there's still a lot that I continue to learn about.  The more you learn the more you realize how little you know

Good luck with your grow.

Tyvek filters + RTV injection ports = transportable jars.
It's probably illegal to grow magic mushrooms with intent to eat them, even if the mycelium is legal.
But plain unshot jars are legal in every respect.

You make it all possible. Doesn't it feel good?
