Pressure cooker and lid tightness?

I cooked up my first batch of grain substrate - popcorn! My this is my first time using a pressure cooker.
When I just used boiling water and steam for cakes, I was told to leave the lid on pretty loose so steam could more easily penetrate.
What about when pressure cooking? I left the lids loose on two jars and they seemed to pick up moisture.

you may have put to much water in the pc. you can put tinfoil over the loose lids to stop water getting in.

How much water should I put in? I was worried that if I put to little in that it's dry out after 70 minutes (what the tek called for).

some would say an inch of water. i prefer measurement in mls since if your pc is narrow an inch is not alot. your pc manual may tell you how much you need per hour. i have my jars on a stand about 2 inches high and water is about 1.5inches. the water shouldnt be touching your jars at all. when your pc reaches pressure you should reduce the power so only a small bit of steam is escaping and it is still at full pressure (if at full power you will lose more water). i turn my hob down to 2/3 power once i reach pressure. a simple way to see how much you need is to measure and pour in 2 litres. pc just plain water for 90 mins at 15 psi. let it cool and measure how much water you have left in the pc. if it is 1400ml it means you lost 600ml as steam so you should put at least 1000ml if you plan on pcing for 90 mins leaving 400ml as a safety net. i normally use one litre but it varies between different pcs

thanks blackout, some good tips there. I bought this PC second hand and don't have a manual.
When using quart jars, I can't elevate the jars out of the water - not enough room. I hope it works out ok.
