florescence lost?
    #1303971 - 02/12/03 11:56 PM (14 years, 3 months ago)

A friend ground and soaked some S. rue seed in straight white vinegar.(its 5% acidity on the label) He meant to complete the manske tek within a week, but let it sit for 2 months. Will this long soak in vinegar destoy the florescence, or can he continue as planned?

I'm not quite sure, continue with it anyway and see, the worse you could have done is wasted some of your time. My guess is it's probably okay. The constituents of P. Harmala don't seem to be that unstable, so it should have kept. You do know you're looking for Blue Fluorescence right?

no he doesnt know that. hes not actually looking for florescence. I was using the term to mean potency or activity of the substance. Some obscure article mentions that the florescence can be destroyed, by high acidity and heat comination, if i remember correctly. he will finish it out soon, and if the resulting crystals are active he will know.

When he said Floresence i assumed it was a typo and he meant to say Fluorescence. But that makes more sense now. Guess i had a brain lapse.

But to tell if the chemicals didn't break down once you wash down to an aqeous neutral to nearly slightly basic solution you will get a blue tinted solution.

If not mistaken it hink Fluoresence and Effloresence can be used interchangeably. Please correct me if i'm wrong. Organic Chemistry was a long time ago,.

Florescence means flowering. I think you have got completely the wrong word. Can you find the article?
Efflorescence doesn't make any sense either. Efflorescence means forming a powder. It's not something that can be destroyed.

I think it means crystalization due to evaporation on a porus surface, or at least that's the context I know it in.

I only know Fluorescence in the context of something glowing.

Syrian Rue extract is reported to glow under black light.

Perhaps his use of floresence was analagous to that of a flower, the flower is still in bloom, hence the chemicals still in "bloom" or still good.

edit: oh wait i forgot he had already stated that in an earlier post. nevermind.
