How Much Water For 1 Brick Of Coir? * 1
    #13037411 - 08/11/10 04:08 PM (14 years, 5 months ago)

I'm thinking of trying out Damion's Elementary Coir Tek but I don't have any verm on hand. Just coir and gyspum.

If I were to do the same tek but with just the coir and not the verm how much water do you think I should use? His recipe is 1 brick of coir, 2 quarts of verm, and 4 quarts of water. Just 3 quarts of water maybe?

I'd do 4.
But I'd also wait until I had verm.

Doc, you think the verm would make that big of a difference? Do you think the coir would dry out too quick without it?

Also, how much gypsum would be a good amount to add to his recipe?

I use about a cup of gypsum for a brick, but I'm sure there are other answers.

Still do 4 quarts of water the verm kinda fluffs up the substrate and holds a tiny bit of water..  I mean you could use like 3.5 quarts of water but I would still use 4

Ok sounds good. Maybe I'll try one without the verm now and then one with it later on when I get some so I can compare them.

1 gallon per brick of coir. period
1 cup water per qt of verm.

This has worked wonders for me. No matter how much or little I need.
I've also been using straight coir without worries and good successes.

Slappy, just to clarify, you use one gallon of water per brick of straight coir using Damon's procedure?
