Using the search function (does jacking off motion)

Okay so sometimes the search can save some time but usually you just end up sifting through a ton of threads trying to get the specific info you need. If your search-fu is strong you can craft a query that will give you what you're looking for first cast, but not everyone has strong search-fu. The idea behind the using the search function is simple, to keep the content fresh. I have two things to say to that. First, there isn't that much to growing magic mushrooms, I mean this isn't the advanced mycology section. So the content you're trying to keep fresh is pretty small in volume and much of it subjective. This dude say shred your mycelia to a dust and spread it around your sub, this dude says don't use a spoon because it'll hurt the mycelia and that's not good, see?
We need a way to tag threads or something, something besides rating, nobody rates threads. Then have the search function only look for tagged threads, I dunno, but the arguments to use the search function are mostly bunk.

To a point I agree. I think the most frustrating thing is finding good posts that are recent. I may find exactly what I'm looking for, but if it's from '06, is the info still good? Surprisingly, there are a few veterans around here that don't mind answering the same question over and over.

Use advanced search. Click on "search our forums." More criteria, and you can select the age of posts. You can even pick out TC's and TI's posts only. Byaa!

I think people just need to search for the right keywords. Instead of typing "How important is FAE in a monotub?" just type "Important FAE monotub" (not the best example but the only one i could think of right now)
Maybe I'm just a black belt in search fu but I've always been able to find what I need with relative ease.

Which is another thing I forgot to mention, not only are they willing, they enjoy it. Some of these guys just love mycology and mushrooms in particular so much they love to talk about it and repeating themselves is not an issue.

The option to rate post's wasn't added until pretty recently I believe. Give it time hopefully eventually it'll be more useful the problem is a lot of people still aren't used to rating posts I usually don't remember they even added it. There was another rating system before this one but no one seemed to like that much either.

The search function is really pretty useless without the the threads being rated and every board I've been a part of it's like pulling teeth to get people to rate and once they do they use it to give negative ratings to people they dont like.

Select one result per thread, check the TC box, and sort by date or by relevance.

Fungal-one, you seem determined to prove how stupid you are. Either you're a troll, or maybe you really are that stupid. Your pic pretty much makes the point.

Either way I'm done with you and your time wasting.

From my (very limited) experience UTSF gets used when someone comes along and says "So what do I need to do to grow shrooms
Pretty bloody helpful mob here (Australianism which I would never say out aloud) and they seem to have a jedi intuition when it comes to answering questions from people that have done some research but still have a few unanswered questions
The search function does work very well, but it requires the buddhist patience that this hobby demands, so call it a filter, of sorts
peace out

I wasn't bitching about anything, btw. I was being bitched at, so I brought the topic out for discussion. If this all really so stressful for you, Doc, take a break, go fuck that pretty girl you have for an avatar, do something. You can call me stupid all you want, maybe it'll make you feel better, at any rate it doesn't bother me.

Lmfao.... doc's avatar is a crazy chick who likes to frequent youtube with videos of her talking. Goes by the name of boxy, I believe. And this site truly does have the best advanced search function I have ever seen. It's never failed me. Either way... doesn't belong in this forum.

a couple of key things to consider is whether you want to search through the entire thread or the main post only, this allows you to weed out possibly hundreds of quoted replies and replies that contain the same wording in it... once people get the hang of this feature they see just how easy it is to use
the search function here is custom coded by several of the admins, it's really the best I've run across on any forum I've used
