agar in a glovebox (flaming scalpel questions)

Hello fellow shroomerites. I am about to purchase some agar to clone mushrooms and sclerotia as well as isolate strains. I am unable to afford a laminar flow hood so I will have to work in a glovebox. I have several questions. your responses would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
1. I understand that between transfers one must flame sterilize his/her scalpel with an alcohol lamp. Is it safe to use an alcohol lamp inside a glovebox? And if not how would I go about flame sterilizing my scalpel?
2. For cloning a sclerotia/truffle on agar what should I do? Should I just cut the specimen open with a clean knife and scrape some tissue onto the agar medium using a flame sterilized scalpel?
3. Will the tissue of ectomycorhizzal species such as morels, boletus edulis, and tuber melanosporum grow on agar. Has anyone tried this. I would like to research these species and perhaps make an attempt at growing them in the years to come.
4. Also will cordyceps mycelium grow on agar?
Thanks in advance guys.

1) people do, but then never clean it with alcohol, only soapy water.
2) You can do that, or just stab a stone and transfer the whole thing.
3) Almost any fungus will grow on agar if the nutrients are right. Check the search engine (and Google) for specific species.
4) Dunno, but I'd imagine so.

I personally would not choose to do so. I sterilize multiple scalpels, then just use a fresh one when I change plates or when I feel like it. Or you could flame the blade with a lighter.

You can't use an alcohol lamp in a glovebox. If it's truly airtight, it will run out of O2 and suffocate the flame. If it's not completely air tight, the moisture from the flame will fog up the glass and you can't see what you're doing.
Use a still air box, which is just a box with arm holes cut out. Wear surgical gloves. Keep your alcohol flame outside the box, but move the scalpel into the box while still red hot. RR

I only use a lighter.
Be prepared for lots of condensation when you're pouring your dishes. It's one of the bigger pain in the asses when working with a still air/glove box I find.

As far as the alchohal lamp in the glove box, you can but it's a huge pain in the ass, and moving your arms in and out of a glovebox is increasing your possibility to contam, go to home depot and buy a bernzomatic mini butane torch, you'll use it in one box session and never look back to any other way
