with the right size pump you shouldn't need to poke holes in the wand. If you do its not going to evenly distribute the bubbles IME. The suction cups suck in a real fish tank. They get old and hard, but if you put them under the hydroton/geolite/leca/lava rocks/perlite, it should hold it down with just the weight of that. If youre anal about doing things like me just hot glue the cups. The little prongs break after a while tho. GL

I have a pump for a 30 to 80 gallon tank, and about 4 feet of silicone tubing going to each wand. I tested it with no geolite and there was absolutely no bubbles... maybe my tubing is to long?? I think a pump for a 30 to 80 gallon tank would be sufficient

an airpump is a lot smaller for a 30 gal than an 80ish gallon
A 30 doesnt have as much depth of h20 to deal with and is much smaller
Do you have a model # for it
Right now I'm using a Tetra ap200 with no problems

No, put on the bottom. Add Geolite, add water.

Easy.

I went back to petsmart to return the top fin air pump, which the girl said is a piece of shit. I looked at their other ones, and they are ridiculusly priced. So, I ordered a profile from petco online.

What's the preferred method of sterilizing the geolite.... is it cool to dunk it all in a bucket of diluted bleach?

I picked my lava rocks up from outside in a flower bed so I had to rinse them like 10 times, soaked them 24 hours in bleach, rinsed, then pressure cooked for 1.5 hours. I pc them every time I get a contam.
