My soaking WBS is bubbling, smells terrible!

I came home to check on my soaking WBS. It's been like 40 hours, I had to work late, so they soaked longer than I wanted them to.
I stuck my hand in the foamy, frothy cess, and picked out a few grains to see if they were mush. They weren't. They were quite firm, and really looked "hydrated". I could smell some fermentation, but thought nothing of it. As I rinsed the foam off of my hands, I told my girlfriend that one of the dogs had certainly crapped. I soon realized that the foam on my hands was what stunk. And it smells terrible. Like human excrement. Rye stunk a little, but nothing like this lol.
I'm worried that the excessive heat today could have gotten the temp up in here. We've had an excessive heat warning here for days, this morning on the radio they said heat indeces reaching 115F. It's hot.
I hadn't told anyone about the WBS except fellow shroomerites. Which one of you shit in my WBS?
Really though, move ahead with final rinses and PC? Trash? Thanks!

Take it out of the water and rinse it really well then test the grain to see how soft it is. It probably wont need to be simmered because u soaked it so long so there for the grains are fully saturated.

Agreed, agreed. Bring to a boil, turn off is probably plenty.

Right on man!
Only jars I have were contaminated, some with trich, some with brown fuzzy. Do I need to PC the empty jars, or just wash really well?

I just wash mine unless they are super bad. Replace the filters, usually. No harm in PCing them though.

Yah, it's pretty rank.
But I guess that's part of the point of soaking -- waking up the nasties so they start doing their thing. Then kill kill kill.

I'd throw the stinking mess out. Once it's rancid, performance even IF it doesn't contaminate is going to be less. However, bear in mind, many endospore forming bacteria will begin to form new endospores within hours of germination. Therefore, your stinking, bubbling mess could very well have more endospores than you started with. RR

Thanks. I alreay made up all the jars and started to PC though, so I'll go ahead and follow through. It did get hot in here today, hopefully it didn't go too rancid. It smelled much better after rinse.

Don't want to disagree with RR and I'll probably start soaking no longer then 24 hours but I soak 48 hours pretty often and it bubbles just a tiny bit and don't get any contams from it. So there's still hope for your jars I think.

Thanks for all the responses!
I'm sooo much more interested in Rye berries. Closest place to buy them is Lawrence, KS @ $1.20 lb (and that is with a discount for buying 100 lbs. or more).
I'm planting rye next year. No doubt about it. Wonder if I'd need a harvest head/combine, or if it could be done on a smaller scale.

I have to agree with RR....if it smelled that bad, it probably is bad. I would have tossed it out but hey, you never know. One thing for sure, it's hydrated.
Now I'm curious as to how this turns out.
Good luck with it, I hope it works out for ya'!
Keep us posted.
