Colonized Foodsaver Mycobag (pics)
    #1303164 - 02/12/03 05:26 PM (13 years, 9 months ago)

A picture is worth a thousand words.
The strain is pesa and took about 7 days
to fully colonize. The bag is made with
a Foodsaver vacuum pack machine.

Peace to Everyone,

Thanks

Yes, just rye.

Quote:

filter.just.polyfil?

Yes. Polyfil from a $1 pillow.

Quote:

how.did.you.make.it?

All the edges are triple sealed with the
Foodsaver vacuum pack machine,
the hole for the polyfil filter is made with
a simple hole punch. A very easy endeavor
as a project in its entirety.

Peace to Everyone,

Peaceful Nomad

Did you pressure cook that bag?

I have the Foodsaver with the roll of bags, that'd be great if I could start using them.

I never thought of this.

I can buy PP bags at the brewers shop by my house I am going to buy some small ones and see if i can punch a hole and fill with polyfil then seal with impulse sealer.

I'll let you guys know how it goes.

Thanks so much for the wonderful idea!

Yes. PC'd @ 15psi for 1 hour. Check out the
following thread making a mycobag .

It is important to at least triple seal ALL edges. The presealed
edges tend to burst during PC'ng if not sealed along the inner
border of the seal. Additionally, make certain the bags do not
sit in the water in your pc or they will burst. Do not use a metal
rack or anything metal to raise the bags above the water, as it
will melt the bags. It is ok to let them touch the side of the PC.

It will take some practice to get used to making the bags, but
once you have been successful a few times it will be easy.

Good luck!

Peace to Everyone,

Peaceful Nomad

Nice! I still have my roll somewhere, basically I used the bags to sterillize my casing mix, but I may have to do some rye, just to try it out. 5 mushrooms for you my friend

can you just inpulse seal those renolds oven bags? Then you don't have to worry about them melting or popping because there are meant to withstand high temperature.

I bought some oven bags, and used it. I just twisted the top, and made a loose knot. It sat directly in the water too!
Its only been two days but i did grain to grain transfer and the mycelium is consuming nicely! NO damage to the bag.
