It's an interesting question, because the "raves" in my area aren't really attended by "ravers."  You won't see any glowsticks or kandy necklaces there.  Instead, it's more of a Burning Man crowd.  You're more likely to see people wearing leather clothes with fancy designs, and fire poi instead of glowsticks.

My kind of party

the serious party goers

not the highschool kids with giant pants and glowsticks and goggles,

I am ashamed to say I had an ensemble that matched that description when I was 14.

They might have started out that way too though,  I dont dress like a kandy kid anymore(I NEVER wore candy beads tho, thats not for me) but I still dont dress up in leather or anything, just normal street clothes will do.  Probably a bathing suit is my favorite, because it gets hot dancing for hours and hours

These days 'raves' generally end up being a bunch of 14 year old girls on 'e  pills' and acting slutty-- while a bunch of old sketchy dudes get drunk and grind with them.

The music is generally happy hardcore, jungle, and drum and bass.

The vibes are generally shitty.

This is what passes for a rave these days in my town, and is so far off from what it should be.

As has already been mentioned, psytrance parties are where the action is at-- dancing, socializing, and awesome drugs all come together for an incredible experience-- but most people are loathe to call them raves basically because of how the parties that are advertised as raves are shitty and full of underage kiddies.... blah blah blah I don't really have a point other then dance to psytrance.

This is generally the "scene" at the dubstep & psy-trance events i attend around nor-cal and the bay area...Burners and hippies...Leather, feathers, & fire...

The crowd tends to be a bit older than what you would see at a rave...

The gatherings/events go down outdoors somewhere or at a warehouse, or other obscure underground location...

Though everyone isn't all "PLUR" at the dubstep/psytrance events, people are still very kind and welcoming...and IMO even more so than what i see at "raves" these days...

For the most part raves are dead and filled with drugged up youngin....It's all about the dubstep/psy-trance gatherings

Rave? Once you've taken E over a hundred times it doesn't do anything like it used too. The best raves are completely underground. Someone brings speakers and a generator to some preferred abandoned industrial area and it's even better if it is in complete darkness except for some lights or glow sticks.

Or big warehouse raves are sick.

No you don't....

Fuck massives...really...

$60-$90 tickets to "rave" with a bunch of drugged up underage kids...Underage sluts...Nothing but the same shitty mainstream producers/DJs everytime...Narcs/Cops everywhere...Lines, who the fuck waits in a line for a rave?...Shady people galore...

I highly suggest never going to a massive....this video shows one of the many reasons not to go to EDC or any other massive, that the video you posted failed to show haha>>>>

Where's all the PLUR at? :smirk:

Just don't do it....

jeeze, it didn't look that bad from a video. I just thought it looked sick from the trailer

Either way, I hope the first rave I go to will be a good one

I mean, to each his own ya know  ....

No doubt a good time can be had at a massive i'm sure...

But it's all about the smaller underground events, better vibes, more of an "intimate" feeling...more true to what "raves" used to be like.

Yeah. The main thing I would want from a rave is good vibes.

There's just no rave scene in my city that I'm aware of

Although I'm sure that if I knew the right people I could find one.

Like someone said before me. RAVE is an acronym
Radical
Audio
Visual
Experience

--------------------
"It's Gloom as unpredicted on this earth. I realize all the uncountable manifestations the thinking-mind invents to place wall of horror before pure realization that there is no wall and there is no horror just transcendental empty kissable milk light of everlasting eternity's pure and perfect empty nature"- Kerouac

my friend and I were just discussing the "difference" between a "rave" and a "show/concert". We recently saw Shpongle (and it was amazing!) at a smallish venue and while it had many elements that might constitute as a rave (people selling/consuming molly, lots of visuals, booming music provided by a D.J., etc.) it did not have the expressly rave "feel" that I had felt some years back at actual raves.

I guess I can't answer your question specifically (or for that matter generally) so I'll shut up now :crazy2:

--------------------

"We are all intoxicated. We were born into an insane asylum, a world crazy-making. We believe what we see and hear. The real myth is the myth of sanity, of rationality: it's a disease that is eating away at the earth. All the poisons flow from our denial. We deny madness, we forget our crimes, we dismember the corpse, we imprison our children. We need poison to poison the poison, to remember the sacred nature of intoxication, the green body of the young god." ~ Dale Pendell

My idea of raves tend to be more of the classic underground event that is illegaly held in some abandoned or isolated area.

I'm young so I wasn't there for the "golden years" of the rave scene, but my hypothesis is that the scene has always had its shitty parts. The difference is that the ecstasy was much better with less adulterants back then.

I actually enjoy massives. Yes there are lots of assholes that attend them, but all the best producers and DJs tend to be at massives and the only reason I ever go to any event is for the music.
Look at the line up for Nocturnal Fest in Texas and tell me that isn't an audiophile's wet dream :awesome:

Jesus f'n christ! I've been to edc once and it was ridiculous. Saw an asian kid start seizuring right on the ground in front of me and get carried off over the shoulder of a security guard. Everybody is too fucked up.

That looks like a nightmare.

I've already decided not to go to another massive again.

Dude all those poor kids stuck in that staircase is just ridiculous. Looks unreal.
