question about monotub size
    #13031131 - 08/10/10 10:53 AM (14 years, 5 months ago)

hello i have been interested in monotubs recently and am thinking about trying the coir tek and had a question about what size tub to buy. Does the size of the tub matter when doing bulk? I am using the coir tek so i am not sure what size bin is efficient for this. The smaller the tub the thicker the substrate will be. However does this really matter? Also during fruiting stage of a monotub does the colonized substrate need to be covered up from light with some ducktape or is it fine to take out of the garbage bag and expose the clear tub directly to light with FAE? Thanks a lot!!

During fruiting you want to expose it to light. Also you want to keep your substrate depth around 4 inches you shouldn't vary much from that any deeper wont help anything just be wasting substrate so you'll want to figure out how big you'll need to make it so you can add the proper amount of substrate.

sub thickness matters, thicker subs get you bigger fruits.
my 13 gallon mono just finished its first flush, 4.5 inches of sub yielded 1/4 lb.

Thanks a lot guys! I am still stuck on the bin size though. I will be using 5 quarts of colonized rye spawn and 1 brick of coir and 2 quarts of vermiculite. I didn't understand the substrate calculator sorry haha.

It seems that 10 gallon tub would be sufficient to obtain the full four inches

You just plug in the dimensions  of the tub into the the calulator and the things you want to use.

All the directions are at the top if you open it up.
