Nice, I'll give that a try with my Mexicana jars once harvested & picked clean of sclerotia, hopefully it'll work much the same.

If the tupper is PP5 plastic, you can skip the step with the jar.

What amount of shaking do you do with your sclerotia jars?
(I've read shake at inoculation and at 30% colonization.)

Damnit! One day too late!
I made my first Mexicana Jalisco quart jars (two of them) last night.
All I had was 2cc's to work with, so I used roughly 1cc each.
I didn't boil my WBS, I just let it soak for 24 hours and used really hot water in between rinses - it's at field capacity I believe.
I also shook my jars after using MS inoculation... and my tyvek is over top of my jars with a rubber band.
Think I'll even see anything?
Very cool tek.. Just wish I would have seen it last night!
Can't wait to give this more of a proper try. And try stones, that must be awesome.

Thanks for the help man.
I used a simple polyfill lid design and put squares of tyvek over the tops.

I haven't seen an in-jar contamination for months, and even then it was very isolated - so I hope nothing goes wrong with these, as they are my only spores for Mexicana Jalisco, so I'm crossing my fingers. I really like that spawning Jalisco to bulk is not necessary.
I have not had a grain jar go bad on me, which is funny because I inoculate all of my grain jars in open air, whereas the cakes are done in a glove box. Truthfully, I think it's all about quick hand motions - when I do grain jars the needle is only exposed to the air for about a second, and that's about how long it takes for the trace amounts of isoprophyl alcohol to evaporate off of the needle.
I tried boiling once, it seemed to bring the WBS up to field capacity faster but overall I didn't notice any difference, they actually colonized a bit slower. I drain and rinse my WBS 5-8 times, and I massage the grains with my hands really well in between each rinse. But, next time I'll def. boil when doing jars for sclerotia.
I keep trying to find a place that carries organic rye berries around here and I have had absolutely no luck.
I was wondering if you could possibly tell me why WBS is not preferable to stone producers, or if it's just the same as other grains - it's more dirty and hard to work with?
Also, have you ever tried Rye Grass Seed? I ask because it's the only form of Rye I've even been able to find locally.
I think I wanna get ahold of some ATL#7 and give this a go

Yeah that makes sense.
I actually did check out our local organic co-op downtown, asked them to order some rye (50lb bag) and they never called me back. I suppose I could go back down there and bother them again... might have to.
Thanks for your help
