I PC after dark with the door open.

What do you plan to insulate with? Fiberglass batting?

Something like that. Maybe those sleeves used to insulate water heaters.  I sent an email to the manufacturer for some advice.

Sounds itchy. Plausible idea if you can pull it off though.
Might be a product you could market- this could be your million-dollar idea.

You might just try something like a little wool blanket wrapped around it.
(Not if you have a gas stove, obviously, nothing flammable in that case.)
But even like a doggy blanket might give you a yes/no answer as to whether this is worth exploring.

I tried it once with my small 12 qt. canner.  It was on one of those portable electric ranges.  The thing took over an hour to reach 15 psi it was driving me nuts. I just wrapped a towel around it and that helped a lot.  Now Im using gas.  With the burner open wide it takes 7 min before the weight starts to dance! (although that much heat will break glass and mess up your grain)

The AA941 fully loaded with bags takes 55-60 minutes to reach 15psi and about 35 minutes to come back down to 0. I usually wait a minimum of 2 hours after 0 psi before opening but everything is still very hot. I don't use bags anymore and I never checked my time with jars but I guess that it would be the same, if not faster.  What about your time?

The AA pressure cookers are pretty thick.  I doubt you'd save a whole lot by insulating it.  I insulate the 55 gallon drums I sterilize in outdoors and it helps greatly, but they're much thinner.  My infrared thermometer only reads 150F when I point it at the AA at 20 PSI, but it reads 220F when pointed at my drum sterilizer, which only operates at 2 PSI.
