How long do truffles REALLY keep in quart jars?

Hey folks,
I know that most people harvest truffles after 2-3 months and some all the way up to 6 months of age. I harvested a jar after 7 months and they were extremely potent and still fresh and mush like.
Most truffle goers say not to keep them after six months, but I feel if they were permitted to colonize and grow in a relatively cool environment, they could keep for up to a year.
Does anyone have any experience with 1 year aged truffles?

Sure would be fun to make up like 40 jars, and open one every month to see.

Great question.
I PCed nine quarts of rye and will be inoculating them with some Jalisco LC tomorrow.
I believe that Jalisco is a sclerota producing strain, but am not sure how long it will colonize. I do not think that it behaves entirely like ATL7.

I've gathered that jalisco is not the most notorious sclerotia producer.

ATL 7, from what I have gathered from Cervantes, is the most vigorous sclerotia producer. I know from experience that they colonize a lot faster than cubes.

I got 12 quarts of ATL 7 going right now on RGS and I would be willing to give this experiment a try. I will open the first jar at about two to three months and I will open one up every month following that and we will see if sclerotia lasts up to a year or not. Sound good?

you need a guinea pig to experiment and find out the potency variation

I am going to be hitting up 24 jars here in the next couple weeks; I will have more than enough to open some a year after inoculation. Shrooms are just so much work, and I honestly like the truffle trip more, especially 6-7 month old truffles. 7 month old ATL 7 are pretty incredible; I have never had such visual trips. The concrete in my driveway was rippling like a pool of water -open eye 3D visuals.
People like to dose on 15 grams of truffles. I prefer 20-30 grams. 35 is a hell of a ride.
Do LCs work well with ATL 7? They are kinda sensitive, so I figure making a grain LC and swishing the hell out of it may not be the best idea.

Ooohh yes.
Also grain LC, g2g, and anything else you can think of, including throwing a stone onto brf.

Alright. Well, I know the direction I am going now. Grain LCs FTW!

you should use an isolate if its feasible for you. That way you can track the potency vs. time more accurately.

That isolate might not last that long though, or it might last a long time. I think you need to measure one thing at a time maybe.

Glad to help and it should be pretty easy. I am not gonna test any potency increase or anything like that because I believe that is already known, sorry. I am just gonna see if they last that long. All I have to do is hurry up and wait and I will post my results. See you guys in a year.

what I meant about the potency test was between older sclerotia and the young ones. Maybe they become more potent as they age, or maybe they lose power. maybe they get more potent and at some time after they start losing potency.
