What is the best way to prepare for a 2nd flush? PICS

Here's a picture of my aluminum foil case,

Once I harvest this 1st flush what is the best way to go about preparing for the 2nd flush? I know that people dunk and roll in between flushes but with a case how does that work?
Also, I haven't used a casing layer of any sort, the substrate is spawned bulk hpoo compost.
Would my best bet be misting the case for a couple minutes after I harvest?
Thanks for the help and guidance

I remove the cakes from their trays, rinse, and place them in a tub of cold water for 24 hours. I also weigh them down with a pan, plate, etc., to ensure they are submersed.
Once the 24 hours is up I remove the cakes, rinse, put them back into their trays and place them back into the GH for the next flush.

Once I take the large cake out of its tray won't its crumble apart in the process of submerging it in the water?

It can be difficult to remove it from the tray, you can fill the tray with water and put something on top of the substrate to keep it down. You should leave it for a couple of days after harvesting the first flush to allow the mycelium to repair where it was damaged from harvesting otherwise contams could take hold from all the excess moisture and damaged mycelium.

Dunk in the tray. Put a plate or something over to hold it down, and use that to drain the tray well when you are done.

Do you have to have the tray under water for a full 24 hours or will a few hours do the trick?
When the tray is ready to take out of the water all you do is let the excess water drain out and put it back in the fc (you can use original perlite since it should still be damp correct)?
Also, I will use cold water to dunk the tray into but I'm assuming since the tray will be submerged for a day that the water will become room temp, thats alright ?
thanks again for all the help

Trays are less dense than cakes. A few hours (3) will suffice.

alright, 3 sounds good to me.
what do you do with aborts that are waiting for their turn to sprout? (I know you aren't suppose to pick everything once the 1st flush develops since the tiny ones that haven't grown will grow in the 2nd and 3rd flush)

If the perlite is dry just add some water and mix it up, but you don't have to change it or anything, use the same stuff.
Room temp is fine for dunk, most people put it in the fridge to ward off contamination.

Pick all the aborts you can but not the pins. Should be easy to tell the difference aborts are black and dead looking.

Agreed. And if you can't tell, ok to leave it- they won't rot.

No reason dunk bulk trays in the fridge. They are wet and warm all the time- if bacteria were going to grow, it would grow.

I've never had that happen, but I also keep my trays roughly 8 inches or smaller.
Like Doc says, no need to dunk in the fridge. Plus, next to the garbage can, theres more contams lurking around in the fridge than anywhere else.

Thanks, that clears up a lot.
The only thing i'm hearing different opinions for is how long the tray should be dunked for. Some people say 3-4 and some say 24 hours. I do understand that fat cakes might need more time to soak since they are a lot more dense than a tray.
Would 12 hours be good for my kind of tray? If not, what do you think the best amount of time would be?
thanks again

Soak until it's hydrated. No way for us to tell you how long.

Good call^^
Here are some pictures of the damage.

As you can see there is a lot of ripping and spore everywhere. Some of the holes even reach the bottom of the tray. Hopefully dunking overnight for 12 hours will repair everything?
I'm not sure how to fill these ripped holes though since I didn't use a casing layer that I could now reapply to patch the holes. I just used the bulk hpoo compost.
Any advice at all is appreciated, thanks again
cheers

I don't patch. I try not to rip huge holes, but you get divots. Dunk, drain, return to fruiting conditions.

yeah i was trying to not rip huge holes either but it happened a couple times. hopefully after the 12 hour dunk a lot will be repaired.
also, does it matter that spores have dropped onto the surface of the substrate causing black areas?

Spores won't matter. If you twist a bit while you rip, and maybe rock it, sometimes you can save some damage. It's an acquired skill.

Yeah towards the end I realized that they come out a lot easier and cleaner when you twist at the base of the mushroom. The second flush will definitely come out a lot cleaner.
