Okay, what happened here? Explosive growth.

I had no intention of staying the night out of town last night. So my mushrooms and dog had a rough night. Ive been waiting forever for the second flush to begin pinning on my golden teacher cake but it hasn't been showing anything. When I left yesterday I had two small pins only. One about an 8th inch diameter and just as long and one about a quarter inch diameter but only an eighth inch long, short and fat. I spray my cakes alot. Not on a regular schedule (no I never did automate shit, I wanna build a Martha) just when ever I happen to look at them if its been a while I'll take the lid off and spray them and leave the lid off for about 5 minutes then back on. I thought maybe lack of light was slowiung down the pinning so I moved it in front of the window where it gets sun all day. That didn't seem to help or hurt. It was this way for a couple days with no real change, only my two lone pins.
I just got home not long ago and I came up here to spray them because I feared they'd dried out. Especially the GT cake because it has a fan built in to the humidity dome. I wasn't ready for what I saw. Look at this.

Two of them have severely deformed caps. Some of the other caps are a little funky looking but not like those two.

This is the side that was away from the window, so I'm putting it to the light for a day or so. I think I'm gonna not spray them again either till tomorrow to see what happens.

So, is this unusual or no? Almost forgot, you can't see in the pic and I didn't lift it to see exactly, but there is a really big one growing on the bottom of the cake I can see the fat ass stalk. Why is it doing that?

It is nothing more than a genetic mutation. It is fine and the shrooms are okay to eat.

What's your guess on the sudden overnight appearance of all that when the day before I didn't even have pins? If I did they were well hid.

Stress, drying of the substrate, contamination, good genetics, luck. Could be anything man but it I don't see any contams and you did say you let it dry out a bit. Don't worry about it, just be happy.

Apparently I had the right conditions for a hot minute. I'd love to know what it was. When I build my Martha I will be outfitting it with all kinds of sensors and building an interface for my computer and every detail will be recorded at all times as well as be able to be controlled with the computer. I'm looking forward to that project, its gonna be fun.

I've had mutations like that and eventually I learned it was because I was spraying the mushrooms with a bottle that used to have some kind of body spray in it. I washed it out very very thoroughly but evidently the chemicals somehow stay in the plastic.

I'm using a bottle that was laying aroung the wife's apartment. I may need to get a new bottle, or just build my fucking Martha already.

Yeah, that bottle is most likely what is causing those mutations. Especially if it was some kind of fragrance bottle or windex or something.
But in my experience they are still ok to eat

I doubt it's the bottle. Mutations like that just happen (I've had the same thing) and they're not very unusual. When pins start to grow, they can grow very quickly. Doubling in 24 hours is pretty standard but more than that wouldn't surprise me much.

Its a tough call. Alot of them on the first flush of the mckannai cake were that colorish. It's just as blue as it is green. I picked it and tore it in half. As the middle oxidizes blue I have it side by side with the part that looks green and as the inside turns they look the same.

Dude was saying it may be causing my slow growth and maybe thats why it blew up when it dried out over night. But, I had no problems with my first flush on this cake. It grew at a steady rate and pretty quick and gave me an oz of nice looking fruits.
